HI STEVE, FLUID LEVEL IS CHECKED BY SPEEDO SENSOR,HAVE TO PULL IT OUT AND IT HAS LIKE A DIPSTICK ON IT,ITS BURIED BY RIGHT HALFSHAFT ON TOP OF TRANSMISSION. ALSO YOUR SHIFTER IS CONTROLLED BY LINKAGE,SEE IF IT CAME LOOSE ON TRANSMISSION AND IS CLUTCH GOOD? YOU MAY BE ABLE TO DISCONNECT LINKAGE AND MANUALLY TAKE OUT OF 5TH AND ISOLATE THE PROBLEM.

SOURCE: check engine light is flashing
check engine light flashing is a miss fire most of the time that may be bad plugs or plug wires that would also explain lack of power don't think it has anything to do with dip stick

Manual transmissions use gear oil, not automatic transmission fluid.
There will be a filler plug on the side of the gearbox. The gear oil should be filled up to the very bottom of the filler plug hole.
