I have a 02 Dodge Durango and the shifter was stuck in park...I pulled the rubber piece away from the base of the shifter and sprayed WD-40 on the moving parts and that fixed the problem immediately

Brake interlock is going to be the problem. Check all your fuses, especially the ABS and tail light fuses. If all your fuses are good, then it will be down to a wiring issue or bad solenoid for the interlock system.

2002 dodge durango wont shift out of park

Put your foot on the brakes and have someone see if you have brake lights. This has a shift interlock that uses the brake lights to complete the circuit that unlocks the shifter from park. You can bypass this saftey feature by applying brake, engine off key off and moving shifter to neutral then starting the engine Dont forget to fix your brake lights !!

STUCK IN PARK

Usually a problem with the brake pedal switch or the solenoid that locks the shifter in park.
Those components would need to be tested for power.
You may be able to take the shifter out of park by turning the key switch but not to the on position.

My transmission is stuck in park

theres a switch that the brake pedal pushes to unlock the gearshift. if you look under the dash and push the brake with your hand, you will see the little black button.. that switch is most likely bad, and needs replaced.. if thats not it the only other thing is can be is the linkage.. hope this helps

2002 dodge dakota quad, stuck in park

Chys. had a recall about a year a go or so on dakotas and durangos to fix that problem, as my wifes 2001 durango she got a recall notice about it in the mail, she was told to take it to a dealer and have it fixed for free whitch she did, and just before that she got one about the upper ball joints to be replaced, and the dealer did that to, free of charge. I don't know if there is a time limit on that or not but it Might be worth looking into.

it is your interlock solenoid or switch on your brake pedal. This keeps you from starting your car in anything but park.
