Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

There is a chirping sound on my 2007 Lexus ES350 that is coming from the passenger side if the engine; we have replaced the serpentine belt, tensioners and the water pump, but the chirping sound remains--the sound is intermittent and appears to quiet when the engine revs....

SOURCE: Cold engine knock after timing belt and water pump replaced

Hi, this could be because the cam timing is a notch or 2 out. The fact that it quiets down when the engine heats up is because the timing is retarded as the engine reaches operating temperature. You will have to look at the cam timing and make sure that they have done it correctly. If that is fine it might be that they have dropped something, like a bolt or nut into the valve cover when it was removed.

The chirp is from scale or a glaze on one of the pulleys. If not black or shiney in color clean it with brake cleaner and spray some belt dressing on the pulleys

SOURCE: I have a 97 Suburban that has a loud chirping

If it has A/C it could be the A/C compressor clutch, Try turning on the A/C and see if the noise goes away or changes.

SOURCE: intermittent chirping noise

I have had alot of customers with this problem. There is another pulley called the idler pulley and alot of times its bad due to the bearing wearing out. I would replace that 1st for around $20
