What causes a car to shake/wobble whilst driving

Its like a flat tyre type wobble..i think it could be the dif or suspension/shockies but im no expert at all.

Hi it sounds like your disk that would do it and front brake pads are down but do cheek the frount disk one must be wering new dick are around 45 dollars ec if you chang it your self thow i would put new brake pads as well

I have an "04" Chevy Cavalier recently started violently shaking if I drive over 40mph and I can't hardly keep it in my own lane there's also a kinda bird chirping noise any ideas what this might be?


I suggest a full front suspension and steering ball joint check including wheel bearings and cv joints
if all ok then have a wheel alignment as it sounds like a castor wobble problem

I have a wobbling back end seat leon 1.9 tdi 2008 plate


wobbling from the rear end can be from worn suspension rubbers in the control arms. Normally it is from belt separation in the tyres and bulges in the side walls
I take it that it is a front wheel drive with no diff action at the rear.
another point may be that the rear brakes are grabbing ( out of round drums or warped discs) that is causing the vehicle to react as if the rear is loose.

Car shimmies at 45 mph


have a front suspension check done and replace any worn ball joints and other failed parts . Check tyres for bulges in the side walls and belt separation . Have a wheel alignment done as this problem is a Castor wobble from negative castor settings. If a 4WD vehicle with a shocky on the tie rod bar have it replaced as it is not opertaional

Steering wheel and tire issue


Have a front end suspension check done to eliminate any worm ball joints -shockies- worn suspension rubbers-- steering problems. If ok have a wheel alignment done and have the rear end aligned first as it affects the front alignment. The violent wobble is castor wobble and indicates negative castor possible from sagging suspension springs. The camber is out at that results in the car following every dip in the road. The camber has to work in conjunction with the toe-in measurement and if the 2 are not correct then you will have problems.

Shaking while driving


Several reasons for this. Have a wheel alignment done and a safety check on the sunsepension and steering as they all can cause the problem . Have the tyres rebalanced and checked for belt and tread seperation especiall on the rear tyres as this cause the rear end to wobble from side to side like a ducks tail feathers do when it walks. Next check for miss firing in t he engine as this can cause the engine to shake which is transfered through the mounts into the body giving the same results as you describe.

Steering wobbles when driving


Improperly balanced wheels can cause the wheels to wobble at speed which can be felt through the steering wheel. A local tyre shop can test the wheels for balance and make the necessary adjustments to the wheels by adding weights to even out the balance.

Left Tire Jerks when moving in any direction, could not drive it home as I was concerned that I might ruin something and cause a bigger problem. What do you think the problem could be?


if the left tyre is shaking then check wheel nuts ,but without a good look its difficult to speculate but i would suspect a deformed tyre which would be caused by the sun but in extreme circumstances freezing conditions might possibly cause it as well

When applying brakes - I get a wheel wobble, o.k. when driving normally no wheel wobble. had realignment done about 4 months ago. also when driving on rough or uneven road surface seems like my shock...


it could be the shocks but due to wheel wobble i would say its more to do with worn bushings on the suspension arms etc.... best way to check is to jack up each front corner of the car at a time and shake the wheel see if it has movement side to side or front to rear if so i would reccomend getting it looked at or replacing the bushings :) hoep this helps

Hi I am Vortash .. I have to say first that this is not a car I have ever worked on , but it's a car so the fundementals will still be the same . Steering shudder usually occours due to 4 things Road wheels or suspension or steering itself ( this includes the ball joints that you say you have replaced )
1/ when you have new tyres fitted it is usually par for the course that they are balanced , this is the wheel is spun mechanicaly and a machine measures the axis wobble or TRUE .. a metal weight is placed at a point indicated by the machine to equalise the weight and give a true spin.... These weights sometimes come off causing the wheel to shake .
The wheels are buckled pot holes cause severe camage if hit at speed also knocking the tracking out causing tyre exstensive tyre wear .
2/ The suspension uhits .. if they become damaged they themselves wobble transfering movement to the steering
3/ steering the track rod ends wear and become loose allowing the front wheels to again wobble and run out of true .
4/ wheel bearings worn severly
The popping you hear I suspect is the sound of the tyres being dragged one way or the other traping air and poping it out , but I would have thought to do this the tyre pressure would have to be extreemly low .. you should have a miniumum of 24psi in the front and 28psi in the rear which is increased at the by 10% if towing .
