You have the wrong type hose on the pcv valvle. It isn't vacuum hose.

PCV Valves are located on top of the valve cover and allow gas to escape from the blow by of piston gases.
Look for a black plasltic piece that is inserted into the top of the valve cover near the front of the engine with a rubber hose connected to it.

SOURCE: where is the pcv valve
For 1998 Mazda Truck MPV the PCV Valve is located under hood, center, upper engine area, top of engine, mounted in passenger side valve cover.
I dotn have ilustration, but its possible that in the WWW.MPVCLUB.COM obtain additional details.
