2006 Buick Allure little or no heat guages good coolant full doors work full air delivery

New 'stat system bled.Do these cars have blockage problems in heater core or system anywhere. Have no proper tools to check spin type rad cap

The first thing to check is the coolant level and to insure the thermostat is working. Usually just putting in a new thermostat is the best thing to do. When you have already replaced it then make sure there are no air bubbles in the cooling system. Here's the procedure for bleeding the cooling system....

Loosen the air bleed bolt in the thermostat housing, then fill the radiator to the bottom of the filler neck with the coolant mixture. Tighten the bleed bolt as soon as coolant starts to run out in a steady stream without bubbles.

With the radiator cap off, start the engine and let it run until warmed up (radiator fan comes on at least twice). Then, if necessary, add more coolant mix to bring the level back up to the bottom of the filler neck.

Put the radiator cap on tightly, then run the engine again and check for leaks.

The next thing to check is the Heater Control Valve. With the heat selector on HOT, the valve should be open. Feel the heater hoses, they should be equally hot on both sides. If not, the valve is not opening and needs to be replaced.

If after this you still have no heat, you need to check the HVAC controls. There is a cable that goes from the temperature selector switch to an air mix door. Check to see that it is still attached on both ends and not kinked. Its been seen many cables bend and distort at the air mix door.

The vehicle will overheat if the cooling system is not properly filled with coolant and all the air bled from the system. With the system full and void of air, you then must assess the operation of the rad fans for proper operation as well as t-stat operation

2000 acura tl coolant fan after fluid change

New thermostat, installed, saw, new coolant made a little mess filling reservoir, (normal) checked fan fuse for some reason, and condenser fan fuse (xxx ?:), and temp guage, is slightly lower on gauge (than normal?) (disconnected xxxx? quit? a bit? to get to thermosta?.t no dash warning lights have a feeling I popped a relay.


ok, you did a coolant service with STAT,

and it failed.

tell us what works right and wrong, symptoms only.

over heating? parked, (fan never comes on)? as it hits 225F?

under heating? ( fan stuck on , up North can cause huge cold engine)

dash gauge stuck low. (thermostat wrong heat range 180f is best. see FSM for spec. on this temp. spec..

Dash guage varies.? oddly (air in system)?

Dash gauge too high.? (Stat put in upside-down or bleed hole (jiggle) not UP side. higher side of mount , trapping air.)

Does something wrong happen only driving?


does cap on rad hold 12-14psi pressure, hot.?

if car has fan belts, are they tight? (for sure water pump does)

Temp guage Rises/almost oveheats when Heater is on. Temp Rises to almost H then drops fast to just above C and repeats but only while heater is on

The cooling system has an air pocket in it. The best solution is to have someone with a vacuum coolant system,and drain and replace the coolant. The only other way,is to jack up the front of the vehicle,and take off the radiator cap,and run it with the heater on full blast. Wait till the thermostat opens,(when coolant level drops)...then top it off while its still running.If you buy ,or have a friend who has a tool called an "Air Lift", will make this MUCH easier,and cleaner to fix.

With blower on high and tempature to max heat check to see if you have good air flow in all mode selections (defrost, vent, floor etc.). If so and you still have no heat then check heater core hose going from engine to inside car to heater core with vehicle running and coolant tempature about half on guage. If both hoses are hot and coolant in radiator/overflow bottle is full then hot cold blend door is stuck in cold position. If coolant level is low you will get no heat, check coolant level first.

Car heaters not very hot

try changing the thermostat and make sure all the air is bled out of the system this should help your heat problem.before changing the stat with the motor at operating temperature grab the heater hoses to see if they are the same temperature or not.if they are the same then change the stat.if not the same temp then the heater core may be plugged or partially plugged and will have to be changed.still change the stat as they do get tired and won`t work properly.

Heat blowing cold air

Make sure your coolant level is full.
Does the temp guage stay just to the left of middle when idling??
I have a feeling your t-stat is sticking and at idle the motor isn't making enough heat to keep warm with the t-stat sticking open. you've got a coolant problem. I'm more inclined to believe its low coolant level rather than the thermostat - especially if the CEL light isn't on. If you don't find an obvious leak, pull the oil cap and look on the bottom of the cap. If you find a butterscotch colored sludge, you probably have a head gasket issue. A shop can pressure test the system and determine what is the most likely cause.

I have a 1999 mk4 golf 1.8 gti. i get no hot air blowing in and the engine temp rises alot when i go above 60mph

Low coolant level, failed thermostat, blocked radiator core or failed pump are all possible causes. Check them in the order given in the list as they become more complex and expensive to fix. Coolant level is easy enough to check, if low just top up at the reservoir. Whilst doing this check that the relief valve in the cap is OK and that the filler cap sits tightly when screwed down. For the thermostat drain the coolant (should be a bled valve for this purpose towards bottom of radiator) into a bucket and remove the 'stat housing and put the 'stat in a pan of simmering water. The 'stat plate should open up about 5mm. Take the pan from the heat and add cold water and the 'stat should close after about a quarter volume of cold water has been added. If the 'stat fails to open or close then replace it. Whilst the system is drained of coolant remove the top and bottom rubber hoses from the radiator. With a hose flush water into the top radiator opening and check if water exits freely from the bottom of the radiator. If there is a sign of blockage put the hose in the bottom opening and put the water on full pressure to back flush the radiator. Keep doing this until the water is clear. If everything up until now has been fine the last thing to look at is the water pump, either the pump has seized or there is a fault with impeller. When refilling the coolant system after any repair make sure that the interior heater is on maximum. When warming the engine up keep the heat on maximum and this will help displace air trapped in the system. Whilst warming up squeeze the radiator hoses regularly again to keep bubbles moving towards the reservoir filler. Keep the reservoir topped up as air bubbles work their way out. Only when the engine is nearly at running temperature tighten the filler cap. After having driven the car, let it cool off and check the coolant level, again top up as necessary.

Yes, it sounds like a thermostat problem. However, low engine coolant level can cause the same symptom. Check the coolant level in the radiator when the engine is cool. If it is full and the level in the coolant reservoir is also full, then you probably need a thermostat. If the coolant level is low, I would recommend having your cooling system pressure-tested to find out where it is leaking from.

I just reapir the overheating problem on my 2001 chevy silverado 5.3 2wd. I am still is full of coolant...reservour is still at the fill line with GM dexcool coolant. The problem to begin...

If it overheated i would replace the thermostant and gasket, also make sure its full of coolant, after replacing the thermostat you may have air in system so let it run until stat opens it may boil over a little until stat opens then it will **** coolant into block when that happens fill with coolant, you will need to let it idle for a while before new stat opens, hope this helps, good luck, i think the stat went bad the first time it overheated.

coolant temp sensor defective. look through manual for location of this sensor.
