Mr. Clark:
It would be extraordinary for a technician to recommend a booster and a master cylinder with no previous mention from you of a possible problem in this area. In other words, the technician had no business looking at the m/cyl or the booster, unless you told him that your braking was deficient.
Here is what REALLY happened: Somewhere, I'd bet, your brake light came on, and somebody "topped off" the master cylinder, to shut the light off. Now, please understand that the brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir DROPS PROPORTIONALLY to the wear of the brake pads. When the tech replaced the front brake pads, he obviously had to squeeze the caliper pistons into the housings to allow the insertion of the new pads. This action forced the brake fluid from the now-compressed caliper pistons BACK into the master cylinder, and it sprayed out from under the cap, coating the cylinder and the booster. Tell that repair service that you do NOT need a booster and a master cylinder, THEY caused the problem with the fluid being everywhere. I am confident that I just saved you a significent amount of money that you do NOT need to spend. Have a great day.

SOURCE: Spongy brakes after bleeding them 2 times. Should I try to bleed the master cylinder or replace it?

Honestly your guess is as good as mine. But I don't think the master cylinder is NOT bad you still have air in the system. Get a big bottle of brake fluid bleed all four sides until you run out of fluid or your brakes work properly. You should divide the bottle's content in four, then use each quantity in each side. You'll be removing air and contaminated fluid from the system. Get a small hose that fits on the bleeders and an appropriate container. I have a good feeling if you do this your brakes will work just fine. I don't know how you are bleeding the brakes. I'll let you know the proper way just in case. This is a two man job, with the wheel off, have someone start the car. Have them pump the brakes a few times to get pressure. 1With the brake pedal UP open the bleeder, 2then have your assistant press the brake pedal all the way down and leave it completely pressed down. 3Close the bleeder valve, once close and only with the valve closed have'm release the brake. Repeat as necessary, bake depressed, open valve first then press brake. DO NOT depress until valve completly closed. Close valve THEN depress. Good Luck!

Gravity bleed your brakes starting at the wheel farthest from the master cylinder. No pweddle pumping. I Fill M/C and leave cover off. Then open the bleeder and watch what is coming out. Uou can see bubbles. When the fluid drips steady and without bubbles, cole and do the same to the other three. Don't let the master cykinder get low because thr fluid level helps move the fluid and air through the lines.Periodically tap the break lone with your wrench to keep everything moving.. When sll bleeders drip clean and steady. Make sore your rear brakes are adjusted to barely touch the drum. Then top off the master cylinder, cap it and give yourself a "break". :)

It is quite possible to get a bad (new) part. Sounds as if you have a bad check valve in the master cylinder. I have bought brand new masters which had this problem and torn them down to find that some yahoo left the entire check valve out when assembling the cylinder.Also possible you have a bad brake hose (rubber part).

How to tell is the brake booster is bad in a 1986 dodge D100


This is a standard Vacuum operated brake booster.. If you are having fluid leaking at the rod that attaches the brake pedal to the booster it is a bad Master Cylinder. The Brake fluid will eventually destroy the diaphram in the booster if it hasn't already. . Replace or rebuild the Master Cylinder and wash the brake fluid out of the booster. When the booster goes bad the brake pedal will become very hard to push.. because you will have lost "boost" This is not really a hard job. If fluid id leaking somewhere else.it should be very easy to spot.. Brake fluid looks like oil leaking..

Brake lights on the instrument cluster can come on for one of two reasons. It comes on when the emergency brake is pulled up a bit and it also can come on if there is a pressure differential between front and rear brake hydraulic "circuits". This last one tells you there is a leak in the brake system (front or rear) or possibly a bad brake master cylinder (bad o-rings inside) delivering more pressure to one than the other. Temporarily unplugging that switch on the master cylinder would rule that out if the brake light continues to stay on. The first one could be due to a bad or out of adjustment emergency brake lever switch located on the lever mechanism.

I CHANGED MY ROTORS AND BRAKES,AND I BLED THE BRAKES BUT THE PEDAL STILL HITS THE FLOOR .


Unfortinatly your pads and rotors may have had nothing to do with this. It sounds like either really bad rear wheel cylinders or a bad master cylinder. I would tell you the master cylinder is the problem though.

If you mean the brake warning light on the dash is coming on, it is telling you that you have a problem with your hydraulic system, There is a switch that senses an imbalance between the front and the rear brakes. First check your brake fluid, if it's low than you have a external leak. If it's not low, the master cylinder has failed internally.Lokk for brake fluid leaks behind each wheel and at the back of the master cylinder. If you can find a leak or it's not low on fluid you had a bad master cylinder.

What this sounds like is either one of two things. A, there is air in your brake lines and they need to be bled, or you have a bad master cylinder and it needs to be changed. The easiest way to tell if it is the master cylinder is to first bleed the brakes, starting at the passenger rear, then the drivers rear, then the passenger front and finally the drivers front. Once you have done this, you should have a full pedal and if it is the master cylinder, it will only take a couple of times of pressing the brake pedal and it will be spongy again. If this is the case, then the master cylinder needs to be replaced.

Brake pump new and the brakes still hit the floor

Will tell you if you have any recalls.
I'm assuming, when you say brake pump, you mean new master cylinder.
Most of the time, when a brake feels "soft", it has pressure problems in the line.
It sounds like the power booster unit could be broken, or you could be leaking pressure at your wheels.
Also on a similar note, I once witnessed a very spongy brake brake, that would not become more "firm" with bleeding. The person working on it was very confused as to why, and upon further inspection, I discovered a small clamp, he had forgotten to take back off the line.
