Question about 1995 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

95 camry, 4 cyl auto, 65000 miles, well maintained, runs perfect below 2000 rpm. when it reaches 2000 its as if it shuts off instantly and then will rev back up to 2000 it doesnt matter if you try to sneak up to it or if you hold the throttle wide open. its as if there is a rev limiter at 2000 that kills the ignition completely and then once below that it comes back on. it started doing it all of the sudden after sitting for an hour. but ran fine before. only other thing I've noticed a vibrating sheetmetal type sound that sounds like it comes from the exhaust manifold area that you hear below 2000 and it goes away at 2000. it has done that since I bought the car 6 months ago. any ideas

The vibrating sound is probably your heat shield on your exhaust,as you rev the engine the vibration is amplified and may be tripping your knock sensor, try removing the heat shield and see what happens.

SOURCE: reverse suddenly quit 95 toyota camry 4cyl auto

Check your transmission fluid level asap. if the level is good, you will need to inspect the shift solenoids located inside the transmission pan. replace any solenoids that are proven to be faulty. i would also advise to test the pcm/tcm for its operational value as well. this device controls the shifting patterns of the auto trans.

while checking the solenoids, if you notice any metal fragments on the bottom of the pan, this will be a sign of major gear friction. you should re build in this case.

Does the CEL come on at certain mile markers? Last night my 2002 KIA had its CEL come one as I hit 65000 miles. Car feels to be running perfectly fine. Is it just letting me know it needs its 65000 mile...

Hello! The CEL is the check engine light. When it illuminates it means your Kia has a trouble code. It is not related to a service mileage point.

Take your Rio to an auto parts store and ask for a free code check.
When you find out what trouble code or codes are being generated, send a comment to this solution and I will be more than happy to define and troubleshoot your problem.

1999 Toyota Camry Idle Problems on Hot days

Clean the IAC. Disconnect throttle body air hose and you will see a hole on the bottom of the throttle body just before the butterfly valve. Spray throttle body cleaner down the IAC hole and then let it soak about 1/2 hour. Reconnect hose and run engine about a minute and then repeat this process 2 or more times. Toyota engines from 1997-2005 commonly have the IAC get cruded up with carbon as early as 35,000 miles. This is a sImple and cheap repair that many repair shops don't want you to know.
