If it has a caby then check why the float is not controlling the needle and seat that controls the amount of fuel into the carby. Check the needle and seat for something like a hair or the rubber on the needle is cracked or the seat is loose in the carby body. Concentrate on the carby as the over fuelling problem is in that area. Check that the choke is not coming on

Hi, you've hit the usual causes. Now check for vacuum leaks and also for an EGR valve stuck open.

1. has the check engine lamp been coming on while engine running?
2. stall during decelleration maybe caused by the idle air controll motor
3. remove the air intake tube connected to the throttle body
4. open the throttle and visabily inspect the bore for carbon buildup/ clean if necc
5. has the fuel filter been replaced?
6. when it stalls does it restart immediately or does it have to sit a while?
7. possible intermittant fuel pump

all of the above are swell answers but ive had this problem in my 96 sierra 2500, have the presure checked at the intake, i had a fuel pump go, then had it replaced.(by gm) and then used the truck for a couple weeks, then sat the truck for 30 days, went to start the truck.... no start. had pressure checked at dealership. boom bad pump, not enough pressure. the unit was replaced again and im a year into this one never failed again.

i have a 06 sierra that done the same thing and it was the distributer gear stripped

Sounds like a security problem that is preventing starting. It will run for a few seconds and then die.
