Question about 1995 Geo Prizm

1 Answer

Minimal power when stepping on the gas.

As I was driving, suddenly the engine became very loud.  Also heard a gurgling sound.  Difficult to get power when stepping on the gas.  There's some but it's slow.  Any ideas?

F22a engine produces strange noise most obvious at 2000 rpm, what could the problem be?

Without a general description of what the noice sounds like, squeal as compared to knocking, it is impossible to help you. Engines make a lot of different noises, so try and help by describing noise. I would suspect it is belt related, or tension pulley related as these are RPM variable noises, belts tend to slip when you accelerate and can be quite loud with a serpentine belt as example.

Difficult to steer:Possible power steering belt failure.

Bad alternator? Check voltage at battery.Needs at least 12 V. to enguage starter. Try jumping the battery from another vehicle.

Air in cooling system

Its not an air bubble Irene, The insulation to the heater core is very minimal. The sound is the flow of coolant going through and coming out the other pipe. You will here it most when your engine is given gas, Which speeds up the water pump.

Chevy astro van stopped suddenly and when I tried to start I heard a loud backfiring sound

Well, if you can possibly get hold of a Scanner, the last actions of the engine may have thrown a Code to help you find the problem. You may have a bad connection on the crankshaft sensor or the camshaft sensor(if equipped). Check your fuel pressure Regulator.

You can try to look through any valve cover holes to see if the valves are moving while the engine is cranking. You can put on a Vacuum gauge and see if the engine is drawing vacuum while cranking. You can pull the sparkplugs and disconnect the coils' power supply and check the compression in each cylinder. All of this can be done without having to use the big wrenches.

Remember to charge the battery so you can get the best test readings possible.

Starter suddenly stopped working. Loud bang when

It's most likely a timing problem, you may try too adjust it yourself; Loosen set screw on distributor and get a timing light. there also a chance it jumped a timing gear when you heard the loud bang..
