YOU WILL NOT GET A WRNING LIGHT.. THE SOUND IS THE METAL ON METAL THAT TELL YOU YOU NEED NEW PADS.. IF YOU DONT GET THEM SOON YOU WILL NEED NEW ROTERS ALSO..

Hi. looks like the break pad warning. Are the outer brackets dotted? if so then replace the worn front break pads. Check the rear aswell.

Mk1 A4 ABS warning light

I have a 2000 Audi A4 and the break wear sensor warning light come on for me too. It does not flash and is orange in color. I have asked the Audi dealer twice about it and they told me it's because the previous owner put aftermarket break pads on it, thus messing up the sensors. I don't know about the ABS warning and other than that I wish you luck on it.

I believe this is the warning for your front brake pads being worn.

Warning light came on---it's a circle with 3 dashes on each side. I have no owners manual...anyone know what this means?

If there is an exclamation mark in the middle, then: "Your brake pads need to be replaced.  There is actually a sensor wire that breaks when the pad is ground down too far, interrupting a circuit to warn you of imminent pad failure. Found an answer here:" (source: http://wiki.answers.com)

Hand brake light wont go out

this sounds like the brake pads may have worn down and the sensors have lit the warning light on the dash, check the brake pads and if the thickness of the pad is at about 3mm then a new set of pads and sensor will be required
