Question about 1998 Ford Expedition

Discharging replaced altenater twice and battery still discharges when running preformed test from haynes manuel all checked out good also had battery and altenater rechecked twice everything checks out good can you help!!!!

    vehicle discharges battery very fast...2 alternators replaced, voltage regulator replaced, 'brain' replaced....92 ford f150...must be more electronics fouled up somewhere

Replace the drive belt and if you have a keypad on the drivers door and it has been used alot they get shorts in them and will drain the battery so have that tested as well

taking a cable off the battery while the engine is running is a guaranteed way of killing the alternator . The alternator has not been checked properly as it has to be on the vehicle to test all the cables and regulator. If the battery was tested with a multimeter then it has not been tested correctly as it is done with a load tester to determine if the battery is capable of holding a charge under a discharge load.. Batteries can discharge internally as well as from a current flow though a completed circuit Ie-glove box light on --boot light on -- door light on relay coil shorting out . Take it to an accredited auto electrician and have the work done properly as it saves a lot of heart ache.

I have a 97 galant that keeps blowing the 100 amp fuse? alternator tested good twice checked wiring reads good is there another fuse ?

Usually that fuse powers the alternator and the fuse box.
It would have to be a big short to ground to blow that fuse.
Its possible the main wire to the alternator is touching a metal spot, or the alternator is shorting out inside when it is running.
What is draining the battery may be something else, or the battery could be discharging after the fuse blows if the alternator is not charging it.

New altenater relay and battery evenually needing jump

only two things will cause a battery to discharge bad alternator and a bad battery

Going down the road runs great then starts loosing charge sit awhile and push off runs great. put new altenater on it i can reve motor up if running lights and starts running good

Either have a bad battery, sometimes they go bad and the symptom is a "self" discharge that will run it down in a few days..
You have something inside the car that's running it down.

The way to check is to unhook the battery for the time that its down and see if the battery is dead when you return. If the battery goes flat unhooked, you have a bad battery. If the battey holds its charge while unhooked you have a drain from the car.

Your car I think was bad about one of the cooling fan relays sticking "on". Just something to be aware of.

Battery light is on...alternator showing low voltage

I never condem an altenater till I have the battery at full voltage.Make sure the battery hasa good 30 minute slow charge then load test it.If it is good most likely bad altenater.

How do you check the ignition discharge module to see if it works properly

Diagnostic Procedure .
  1. Check the ignition discharge module's ground connection
    • Connect a test lamp to battery positive (B+) and pin 6 of the ignition discharge module's connector. The test lamp should light up.
Is the test lamp on?

YES: Continue with point 2.
NO: Check and rectify the wiring, including grounding point G7P. Then continue with point 4.

    • Connect the test lamp to pin 10 of the ignition discharge module's connector and battery negative (B-).
    • Activate one of the ignition coils by means of the ISAT scan tool. The purpose of this is to cause the main relay to operate.
The test lamp should light up.

Does the test lamp light up?

YES: Continue with point 3.
NO: Continue as described in "Fault diagnosis, main relay".

WARNING: The electronic ignition system generates up to 40,000 Volts. Such voltages can prove fatal to people with weak hearts or those who are fitted with a pacemaker. All due caution should therefore be observed when carrying out any work involving the ignition system .

The ignition discharge module must be positioned with the ignition coils downwards during the test so that the transformer oil will provide good insulation in the high-tension part of the coils.

Sparks should be produced on each spark plug that is activated.

Are sparks obtained?

YES: Change the spark plug and continue with point 4.
NO: Change the ignition discharge module and continue with point 4.
  1. Final check:
    • Try to start the engine.
Did the engine start?

YES: The remedial measure taken was correct.
NO: The fault is not in the ignition system.

Battery keeps discharging and the altenater and starter are fine.

Some thing is draining your battery, most probably it is the air condition or the short circuit.
