Question about 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier

1 Answer

Transmission noise the 2005 chevy classic has 150,000 miles, tyransmisission makes a sound and I feel a clunking when it upshifts(this is intermetant) after its has gotten hot, driving over one to 2 hrs, suspect filter is clogging and fluid losing viscosity.Does this make sense.Has never had fluid changed. Can I replace myself.Ive done my own brakes, wheel cylinder, etc. Is it just dropping pan and replacing filter, then refill fluid? I am mechanically adept. What manual would have info needed to do this myself? What tools needed beyond sockets, etc.

There are no special tools to change the fluid. You have to make sure when you pull the filter off that the rubber seal comes out with it where it goes up into the trans. case. If not, you have to take a ice pick or something similar and pull that seal out. Put your new filter in, change the fluid. I would recommend putting a conditioner like Lucas trans. additive. Also, the clunking noise - you should check your axles and front motor mounts. Hope this helps. Phil

I have a 2005 Trailblazer Transmission making knocking sound change filter & fluid drove 40 miles no OD. 3 MILES NO GEARS AT ALL. need help.

What do you mean by no gears at all? Will it not move forward or backward? Will it move but not upshift? Check the level. IF the level is ok the transmission will need to come out. The knocking noise could be a broken flex plate.

No 3rd or 4th on 2003 chevy tohoe 5.3 ?

The 4L60E transmission usually has a life of 150,000 miles. The "newer" transmissions are made a lot lighter and therefore weaker than the old workhorse TH350 and TH400 transmissions of the 70's and 80's. They had to make the transmissions with less metal to attain the ridiculous MPG requirements. I had to have mine rebuilt in my 04 Silverado at 165,000 and couldn't believe that they told me the average life was 150,000!

My 2005 Lincoln Aviator is making a strange sound while accelerating through lower gears.

yeah , the fluid needs to be checked, the dealer needs to pull the plug and check the levels and fill it accordingly, it my need to have a fluid change also. it sounds like a shift solenoid, but i would have the fluid checked out first.

03 GMC Yukon transmission clunk at idle

2005 Yukon XL 1500 2wd 252,000 miles
It developed a noise like a can full of rocks slowly rolling
It only did it in neutral or park with engine running.
Putting in gear would stop it.
Turned out to be a loose filter element in the transmission.
At least that's what I was told by my mechanic.
Solved the noise though

Clunk sound when turning left in 2005 Chev Malibu

I have 3 2005 Malibus - 1 Maxx LT, 1 Sedan LT, and 1 Sedan LS. All three needed to have the steering rod replaced by 50K miles. You'd feel a muted clunk through the wheel when turning. The other light clunk issue I had with the Maxx was I hit a parking curb and it broke the lower radiator bracket. In certain bumps you'd feel a light clunk. A new $22 bracket fixed the issue and now I make sure I never pull too far into the spaces in the garage at work.

Rear end clunk in Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup

The noise is caused by the axle button being worn out, this lets the axle move back and forth and clunk, this is a unique problem with C clip retained axles, it is a noise issue but will not fail and cause any more damage, in order to fix it you must have the axles pulled and the diff carrier checked for excess wear where the axle retainning C clip rides, if the carrier is ok then replace the axles.

Hi. the car is kicking due to the 1st to 2nd gear upshift in the transmission. Corollas are famous for this kind of behavior when it comes to the transmission. Some of them kick when upshifting, some of them downshifting, And some of them make a humming sound when they do so. It doesn't mean the trans will fail. Just make sure you do the usual fluid checks, and as long as it still look purple, you'll be fine.
