Having this happen on both front brakes makes me think you have a bad master cylinder. What work have you done to it prior to this problem?

Tires, unless it happens when the brakes are applied, that would be warped brake rotors.

Did you have this problem before you got the tires? Sounds to me like the tires need to be balanced.

Burning rubber smell 2001 mercury sable

Oil residue from a large leak can take a long time to burn off, but it should be OK after a few months. You may be smelling the tires, and you did say it smells like "burning rubber" so make sure the tires are not rubbing on anything.

The van smells and the lug nuts are gettign burning hot after it is driven for only 10 minutes.

my best guess would be a brake pad or caliper that is sticking on the "on" position. This will cause the brake to generate a high amount of heat and it will heat up the lugnuts. the smell should smell like burning brakes because that is what is happening. the smell itself is hard to describe . if it gets extremely hot you will see smoke coming from the brake that is not working correctly. if it is one brake doing it the steering should also "pull" to the side of the problem. right wheel brake dragging will cause the vehicle to "pull" or verr to the right side.

Front wheelsmoking and smelling like burn brakes

Shaky steering can be alot of things, so lets start with probable causes. Wheel alignment, wheels not balanced, worn out suspension or linkage. The smoking and burned brake smell could be the same problem if the caliper is sticking, this too can cause a shimmy or shake in the wheel... You really need to get those front wheels off and take a good look. If your not really privy to what exactly your looking for please take it to your trusted mechanic, and have them check it out...Good Luck!!

Jeep front end shakes and locks up

Obviously you have some dangerous brake problems and shouldn't be driving it. With that said, besides putting everyone else in danger, as well as yourself, your heating up parts that become brittle when heated, and could snap off, like a wheel. You more than likely have warped rotors, seized calipers, defective flex hoses, just for starters. Park it until you can get it checked, please!
