Question about Ford Ranger
I have a frankensteind ford ranger I bought. When I try to accel carb sounds like a ball pin hammer hitting, and won't go anywhere. When I shut the vehicle off it shoots a white puff of smoke out. I am getting fuel to the carb becaue when I pull the filter off it is full. I am no mechanic and I have no help on a minimum budget. I have changed the spark plugs. wires, ignition coil, module, fuel filter, fuel pump,Pcv valve.distributer cap and button. I pulled some of the vacume lines of and feel no suction going on. Carb is from an 87 inline electric carb, motor 83-86. I don't have a timing light to check that any suggestions. Oh when I first try to start it, it will run idle, Then it won't start if after it dies
Which engine and what type ignition system? How many miles on it? Timing chain or belt? don-ohio

You will need to do your testing while the vehicle is in failure to start mode.Check wether the coil is recieving 12v and pour a little fuel down carb to see if it wants to run.If pouring a little fuel down carb makes the car try to fire up you probably have a fuel pump issue. If it doesnt try to fire you have an ignition problem.Hope you get it sorted and good luck.

well you could try to get a vacuum gauge and see if your car reads what it supposed to and if you buy one it could tell you what it could be.

You may have some contaminated fuel, use a additive called heet, for moister, and lucas fuel treatment, these are premium additives,do not just use any brand, these I know will fix the problem if it is in the fuel.

SOURCE: Won't start. Starter turns over,
Check for spark-Check if gasoline gets to the injectors, fuel and spark If you are likely to be out of time so you have to check the position of the rotor or revise the chain belt ifs 2.4 or if time is 3.0.
