You cannot tow a auto is what i was taught at college 40 yrs ago and the rule is still the same and no doubt as ity has no rear pump in the box only certain older cars had this then you effectivly run the gearbox with no oil circulating causing i wouldnt like to imagine all sorts of damage internally

Sorry here but try a direct question to emmisionwiz as hes a ford mechanic in america who must deal with more autos than me as iam in europe and i will not repeat what a auto box is called here in macho iberia spain but a caja de yaya is a common one or in english its a granny box .Iam not familar with this type of box but if it has a solonoid for each gear inside then it could be a pressure problem not switching a sesor as the pressure builds up or even a vacumn pipe off .Just no idea here now ask me about a foden 12 speed splitter box or a 2 speed rubery owen diff unit ?

1997 conversion van was towed now it wont go in reverse

When you tow a vehicle -- a flat bed hauler -- is your best bet

Next would be -- to use a wheel lift to raise the rear wheels or
remove the drive shaft, so the trans does not have any internal
parts moving

Hard to say IF something was ruined or reverse was about to fail

When reverse goes on a rear drive GM trans, your pretty much going to be taking it apart & rebuilding it,as reverse is the first parts into the case & the last out on disassembly

04 Lincoln towncar won't reverse after being towed

You should never tow an automatic car unless the drive wheels (rear normally) are OFF the ground - otherwise you will damage the gearbox - put your foot on the footbrake and slide through the gears from park to reverse a few times, make sure you have sufficient gearbox oil, if this doesnt correct the valve then you have damaged your gearbox by towing it.

is the the 4wd option car? acutally allwheel drive. AWD
the question is for the non awd is if the transmission
can lubricate its axle gears, being towed.
and AWD all 4 wheels.
lost the manual, and 1st google hit is here.

the page essentials says, yes, 2wd, no AWD.

pretty clear, even pictures of all ways right and wrong.

In most cases this means you have a defective transmission and the tow were just a coincidence.

Why is my saab stuck in reverse?

Nasty - that car should never be towed with the front wheels on the ground. You probably have a wrecked transmission.

'04 Trailblazer. Indicator shows drive but it's not in drive.

The transmission range (TR) switch is part of the park/neutral position (PNP) and backup lamp switch assembly, which is externally mounted on the transmission manual shaft. The TR switch contains four internal switches that indicate the transmission gear range selector lever position. The powertrain control module (PCM) supplies ignition voltage to each switch circuit. As the gear range selector lever is moved, the state of each switch may change, causing the circuit to open or close. An open circuit or switch indicates a high voltage signal. A closed circuit or switch indicates a low voltage signal. The PCM detects the selected gear range by deciphering the combination of the voltage signals. One of these circuits it what is causing your problem but I hope this helps you understand some.

1991 Cadillac Deville won't engage in gear

the idiots must have towed the the car by the wrong end , this will burn out the transmission in short order. Any car needs to be towed with the drive wheels off the ground, if that is not poss then the drive-shaft has to be removed.
