Question about 2005 Honda Accord

1 Answer

60,000 miles, car won't turn over. usually starts after jumping it from another car for 15-20 minutes but the battery doesn't seem to be the problem, all inside lights and controls still work. this happened 2 days ago and we put water in the battery, not sure if that is what caused it to start or not. car makes weird clicking sound when trying to start, interior panels flicker. in the "on" position all controls are lighted, the flickering only happens when trying to turn the engine over. please help!!

Your alternator is most likely on its way out. The electrical problems happen either when there is a short in the electrical system or there are not enough amps to run everything that's on currently.. Get your alternator tested at a parts store such as advanced auto parts.

Possible solution - This happened to me and my battery was dead in my key fob and also I needed an ignition switch because a piece on it was broken which therefore wouldn't turn to start the engine.

Car tries to start but cant seem to turn over. battery seems fine

Get your battery tested, if your battery has failed internally sometimes jump starting doesn't help as the battery is pulling all the current away from your starter.

Car wont start, seems like battery went dead

If the car doesn't start with a jump you might have a bad alternator. The alternator supplies voltage to the car once the engine is running. If the battery is dead, and the alternator isn't putting out sufficient voltage, the engine cannot run. Then again sometimes a car with an extremely dead or internally shorted battery WON'T start with a jump. Replace the battery and try again.

Sounds like you have a toasted battery or alternator. Have you performed a load test on the battery? Have you tried to charge the battery? First remove the battery and charge it externally from the vehicle. If the battery won't hold a charge, or won't hold a charge of 12 volts, replace it. Once you have the vehicle started, test the operation of the alternator. It should be putting out at least 13 volts back to the battery to keep it charged - if it is putting less than 13 volts or more than 16 volts, replace the alternator.

Hi there !

I won't say its an alternator problem because the alternator only charges the battery when its on, And it should start with the jump cables even if the battery and the alternator are bad. your Issue is not clear. Does the car start when you jump it ?

That is quite a car! Remove the negative terminal from the battery and allow to sit for about a minute. Is the battery in good condition even after sitting? You may "consider" replacing if there is even a glitch. This should reset the system. Let me know what you see.

2006 Chevy Cobalt wont start. It doesnt turn over. All i can hear when i try to start it is a rapid clicking sord of sound. Any ideas!?

This means your battery is dead. Whether it's from a catastrophic failure of the battery, or something ran it down is to be determined later, but for now you should be able to jump start it to get it where you need to go. Be prepared for it to not start again once you shut it off, so make sure you're someplace you can get a jumpstart, or fix the car. If you charge the battery, or jump it and run it for a while, if it doesn't start again, you have a bad battery. If the alternator is bad, you'll get a big failure of the gauges and lights, and it will quit running altogether. If you're nearing about 60,000 miles, your alternator is running out of time anyways, so be prepared for that one.

Honda accord hybrid 2005 won't start in cold weather

Sounds like a fuse for the DC-DC convertor to battery circut or the DC-DC convertor. Check the fuses under the hood but DO NOT attempt to fix the convertor yourself because there are LETHAL amouts of voltage in the hybrid drive system.
