Is the purple wire at the starter solenoid showing power when the key is turned to the start position? Check that first. Also do you have an aftermarket starter interrupt system, look under the dash for a little black plastic case with wires coming out hanging down or taped up there.

Need tune specs on '89 5.7 GMC

Spark plugs are set at 0.035 inch.
Ignition timing is set at 0 degrees BTDC. The computer then controls the timing from there. There will be a wire that you unplug before you set the timing, then once you have verified that the timing is at 0 degrees, then reconnect the wire and you're done.

What is the correct amperage to ignition switch on 88 gmc k1500

Do you have 12 volts at the large post and at the small wire coming from the key switch when the starter will not turn ?
There is a neutral safety switch in the circuit that could have failed.
