Question about 1996 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Coupe

1 Answer

Draining the battery and won't start

I've a 96 cutlass ceirra. It's got a brand new, not rebuilt alternator on it. It's still dieing. I will go down the road, the charge light will come on then shortly afterwards the interior lights and all extexior will go off. Within 2 minutes of that, the car will die off. It won't restart as though the battery's dead. Just bought a brand new battery last night... same thing. It's showing some juice but not enough to crank it. I'd appreciate any thoughts as I've mine with2 certain things. Thank you much.

Go to the back off the alt at the main post there should be a heavy red wire take a volt meter and see if you battery voltage. if you do not the fusable link wire at the starter there will be three of them one of them has failed . what that wire dose it feeds the battery voltage . if there is no voltage on that wire the alt will not work good luck kdc744

I go and jump start my car. When i pull the jumpers off the other car. My Hyundai will stay running for about 2 minutes and then dies. It has a brand new battery.

Who rebuilt the alternator? Battery posts clean and tight?
Auto part stores can check it for you and also hook up their cpt analyzer and find something else. Sometimes a loose or bad wire will expand when heated and lose the connection.
I suspect the alternator system has something to do with it.

2005 chevy equinox changed battery and alternator and still drains battery the next day or two

First are you sure the alternator is charging the battery ?
If it is, someone will need to pull fuses and disconnect major circuits until you find the drain. It could be a simple relay, or a short to ground in the harness somewhere.

96 olds cutlass ciera sl wont hold charge with new battery and alternator

Well the charge light means the alternator is not charging the battery.
You would need to get the alternator and circuits tested on the car.
It could be a bad connection somewhere or other wiring problem.

I have a Chevy S-10 pickup and the battery keeps going dead. Just bought a brand new one and in four days the truck wouldn't start again.

Most possible that there is a heavy LEAK on the circuit and thus drains the circuit. This must be probed using a series ammeter which must be able to isolate the drain circuit when the main switch is OFF.

96 pontiac battery drains itself

Sounds like it IS the alternator. Batteries sometimes have a bit of a life of their own after sitting for awhile and will start a car. Once running, it will continue until the battery charge dies completely...especially when not using radio, A/C, lights etc... Also, it could be an alternator belt, (or surpentine belt) too lose on the alternator. Finally, check the battery for water level. If it is the type that requires water, sometimes people forget to fill it when sold.

Have a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra SL 4dr. VIN# 2G3AM5IN8K240

have you checked the glove box light? another way to tell where your short may be is to hook a voltage meter to the battery and notice a drain on the battery with the key off! then start pulling fuses to see when the drain stops and that will narrow down the possibilities of the problem... the drain should be easily located if its killing the battery overnight... help this helps

Automatic locks are draining battery, 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sup

Pull fuse to locks and see if that solves the problem first, does the battery drain over night, could be a bad voltage regulator in alternator.
