SOURCE: step by step instructions on removing intake

It's a simple TBI 350 Chevy engine. Google free repair manuals for Chevy and GMC trucks from 1987-1995. Because they're easier to find than Caprice and Roadmaster manuals.

SOURCE: intake manifold gasket / replace

3.8L Engine

NOTE The 3.8L (VIN K) non-supercharged engine uses a two-piece intake manifold consisting of an upper air plenum which mounts the throttle body and a lower intake manifold assembly which houses the fuel injectors. The 3.8L (VIN 1) supercharged engine uses a similar lower intake manifold. The supercharger serves as the upper manifold.
Lower Manifold

NOTE Two bolts which fasten the lower intake manifold to the cylinder head are accessible only after the upper intake manifold is removed. These bolts are located in the right front and left rear corners of the lower intake manifold. Remove the upper intake manifold to service the lower intake.
The 3.8L (VIN 1) supercharged engine uses a manifold similar to the 3.8L (VIN K), but the supercharger serves as the upper manifold.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. On 3.8L (VIN 1) engines, remove the supercharger assembly. Please see the procedure in this section.
  3. Remove the upper intake manifold using the procedure above.
  4. Remove the EGR outlet pipe from the intake manifold.
  5. Detach the engine coolant temperature sensor wiring harness from the sensor.
  6. Remove the lower intake manifold bolts and carefully lift off the manifold.

To install:

  1. Clean all parts well with degreaser, especially the gasket seal surfaces on the upper and lower manifold pieces and between the lower manifold and the cylinder heads..
  2. Install new gaskets to the cylinder heads and new seals to the engine block. Carefully lower the manifold into place. Apply thread-locking compound to the bolt threads. Make sure to install the two hidden bolts in the lower intake manifold. Hand start all bolts, then torque evenly to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm). Follow the toque sequence, starting in the center, then working outwards in a circle.
  3. Install the remaining components in the reverse order of the removal process.

Upper Intake Manifold (Plenum)
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. On 3.8L (VIN 1) engines, remove the supercharger assembly. Please see the procedure in this section.
  3. Tag for identification, then remove the right side spark plug wires.
  4. Disconnect the ignition wires from the fuel rail.
  5. Remove the fuel rail. Please see Section 5.
  6. Remove the cable bracket from the intake manifold.
  7. Remove the throttle body.

NOTE Two bolts which fasten the lower intake manifold to the cylinder head are accessible are accessible only after the upper intake manifold is removed. These bolts are located in the right front and left rear corners of the lower intake manifold.
  1. Remove the upper intake manifold bolts and carefully lift the upper intake manifold from the engine.

What are the symptoms of a bad intake gasket on a 1999 buick century?

Coolant leaks,When the intake manifold gasket cracks or blows out, coolant will leak out of the intake manifold. You may see puddles underneath your car or notice smoke or steam coming off of the engine and exhaust from the coolant dripping onto it and then burning.Overheating, If the intake manifold gasket fails and allows coolant to leak out into the engine, your car will begin to overheat. If your car frequently runs low on coolant or begins to overheat, check the intake manifold gasket.Running poorly, When the intake manifold gasket falters, it affects the way the motor handles its emission gases. The change in pressure can affect the vacuum in the intake as well as how smoothly your car runs. Mainly, it will idle roughly and may hesitate, cough or sputter.

How to replace a head gasket on a Buick Park Avenue 1992 with a 3800 engine

Are you sure its a head gasket? The coolant cross over gaskets on the intake manifold are famous for blowing out and simulating a head gasket failure. 9 out of 10 times this is the problem. Good part is you have to pull the intake to do a head gasket, so id pull off the intake first, its not that hard on this motor. If they are blown you wont have any problem telling it.

Does my roadmaster 1992 have a short block engine 350 motor?

The '92 Buick Roadmaster is equipped with a 5.7L TBI 8 cylinder engine.

The 5.7 is the 350 CID. When you inquire about a "short block" however, that is not what is in your car.

A short block means only a partial engine, incapable of running until other parts are added to to complete it.

Usually a short block consists of the basic block, crankshaft, rods, pistons, and rings. Some may come with oil pump, but I think most do not. If you buy a short block, you'll have to either transfer necessary parts (heads, intake and exhaust manifolds, oil pan, oil pump, water pump, etc....) from your current engine to the purchased engine, or purchase the needed parts from a supplier. Additionally, you'll have to purchase the necessary gaskets, seals, etc. to bolt these parts on to the "short block".

This isn't a huge task, but it may well be beyond the scope of the average DIY individual vehicle owner.

If you want to pursue this, you can purchase vehicle specific repair manuals from your local auto parts store.

Whatever you decide to do.....GOOD LUCK!

Does my 92 buick roadmaster have a short block or long block?

short block just means an engine without the cylinder heads installed on it. That's one way of buying an engine. Along block is the same as a short block except it does have the cylinder heads and maybe the intake manifold as well.

Where is the air filter located on a 1992 buick roadmaster?

The air filter is a long rectangular shape and is located is the front section of the air intake cover. Dead center and right on top of your engine. It is square rather than round like most but still sits right on top of your carburator/fuel injector. 2 wing nuts release it.
