Sounds like the car is in "limp in mode". If a major sensor goes out or the computer senses a reoccurring problem for too long, it send the car into "limp in mode".
Lose of power, low speed (usually not over 50-55mph) horrible gas mileage, and inability to shift gears.

Thanks how do i fix it ?

  • Jeremy Roeseler Dec 31, 2012

you need to find a check engine code, transmission code, something to give you a starting point. other wise you're just gonna throw parts at it and waist A LOT of $

Ok that helps thanks so if i disconnect the batt. will that help any

  • Jeremy Roeseler Dec 31, 2012

many for about 15 min till the computer realizes nothing has been fixed. if you get codes read let me know. will be happy to help. go to any of you major part stores they will check codes for free. just DO NOT buy any parts they tell you you need. most of the time you need a part "up stream" from what your code is.

Is this an automatic? P1527, Basically, the tcm is telling the pcm to turn on the lite. You could have tranny problems? Could be issue with transmission range sensor? I saw a service bulletin, kt2007020701, that is a relearn procedure, if the pcm--tcm or transmission has been replaced. I don't know if relearn will help or not?

Transmission will not kick down, stays at 3000rpm at 100kph

Depending on what year and make it can be many things, but the transmission needing serious work does come to mind. Have a local transmission shop diagnose it, they will in most cases do that for free.

2002 kia optima, dohc, belt not broken but slipped. cams will not stay on marks springs one way or the other. all other marks in line.

you have to lock the two cam gears together while holding them in the right position. a special tool is used but you could make a small wedge out of wood to jamn in between the two gears, that will lock them together

I think this car has a torque converter lock up. sometimes they freeze up when the the pcm makes 1:1 to the motor and transmission. this could be the shifting problem.
