i know for a fact that the bearing comes with the hub., and if the old bearing is badly damage you may need to heat it to remove it from the axel...so this may be a rather big job if your not equipt
with torch or other ...

WINDOWS ARE STUCK IN THE WEATHER STRIP. START VEHICLE HOLD SWITCH DOWN AND HIT THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR PANEL NEAR THE BOTOM. WINDOW SHOULD COME DOWN. THEN LUBE WEATHER STRIPS .

SOURCE: Left rear axle seal is leaking differental oil.

ok then here is the procedure  1 take off the axle nut
2 on the lower control arm you will find a large nut and bolt i belive the nut is a 21mm and the bolt side is an 18mm. this bolt is the one at the knuckle near the brakes. remove it
3 you will need to pull the knuckle out of the way or a helper to pull the knuckle out of the way so you can slip the axle out of the knuckle.( its a tight fit but there is room to slip it out.)
4 use a pry bar to pop the axle free of the diff. hosing its held in by a spring clip make sure the clip comes out with the axle if it gets stuck inside you will have to fish it out.
5 use a pry bar or screwdriver to pry seal out of housing then use a flat object that contacts the entire rim of the new seal so it can evenly be installed with out getting smashed and tap it in with a hammer. ( a good trick here is to use some grease and pack it into the new seal where the spring is this will prevent the spring from being shocked out of the seal during instalation . the spring keeps tension on the rubber in the seal so it stays tight to the shaft it is sealing.)
6 then revers the above steps. also make sure you are using the right gear lube it will most likely be 75w-140 but make sure you check your owners manual will tell you if it doesnt say on the diff cover. you can cause a lot of damage if you put in the wrong thing. and make sure  you feel the axle spring clip snap into place.
as a note there are two types of axle seals that are used on these so if the new seal looks different than the old seal then the folliowing will be important to you.the seals on these have been redesigned so if you axle has what looks like a cup or dust cover pressed onto the shaft where it goes into the diff the new style does not use this and it will prevent the axle form going in all the way so the spring clip will not lock in and you will have a leak. so you will have to remove it and install the axle without it.

The problem is most likely a damper door actuator that has a stripped gear. I replaced mine in my Explorer and it appears to be a common problem. To replace it you must remove the side panel which is held in by the door seals and spring clips. This will expose the rear a/c unit. Then you must remove the bolts securing the a/c housing to allow you to pull the housing away from the fender to get access to the actuator. The actuator is bolted on and will require a small socket to remove it. You can hear and feel the actuator thumping to determine which one it is. When replaced, the actuator shaft must be aligned with the damper door which is inside the housing. The part number for mine was YL5Z*19E616*AA and lists for $68.18 at the Ford dealer. I found it later online for $35.

Sorry to say it sounds like you have a bent axle, If you mean Drive shaft when you say propeller shaft, then that's either because you also bent the driveshaft or you have u-joints that have gone bad. It sounds like a mess, Did you hit something or run over something? Rear axle don't just get bent form nothing. Has there been a grinding noise for awhile coming from the rear area? Your axle bearing or wheel hub bearing may be shot causing the wobble,

Do you have the decades of knowledge & tools to take
apart anything on the vehicle?

Have you not put it up on jack stands & started to
diagnose the issue,I would, as I am sure most shops

Abs light on/grinding and clunking in turns on front left side of 2003 ford explorer


Sounds like left front loose wheel bearing knocking ABS sensor out of range causing ABS light to come on and causing grind noise at same location. Grinding noise is probably rotor rubbing on calipar.

Get your brakes inspected - the grinding noise may be the front disc brake pads, which have worn out. Several national chains offer free estimates for brake repairs. They will also check the other front end components, which could be causing the noise.

When I get up to about 65-70 mph with my 2004 Lincoln Navigator it makes a humming noise... very annoying.. Can anyone help me with what this is and how I can get it fixed?


Unfortunately, this is a somewhat common problem. Ford has issued several Technical Service Bulletins related to rear end noise. Without an extended warranty, this is something you will have to pay for.

what type of noise?
have you checked the fluid?

if its a grinding noise while driving it could be choppy tires carrier bearings or axle bearings.

if its a whine while accelerating or decelerating than it is pinion angle.

if you can safly get both rear tires off of the ground than start it and put it in gear, try to locate the exact location "center chunk or out far in axle tubes" make sure vehicle is secure and safe befor climbing underneath.

Rubbing or grinding noise coming from Driver side rear tire/wheel


I had the same problem that based on interner research is common for Fords trcuks/suvs. The common problem fro rear humming "rubbing"sound might be the rear wheel bearings/seal. These will need to be replaced as it will progressivly get worse and the noise louder and eventually the bearings can sieze. I would hesitate to take to a ford dealer if I were you as it can run $500-900. Take to mechanic that knows how to replace wheel bearings and seals. My mechanic replaced them for about $150. and the bearing and seals are around $40. A good way to test this is to raise the wheel were you can freely spin by hand...if does not spin or there is a lot of friction then it might be the wheel bearings.
