I should have added - if not already done, try first changing the fluid, driving a bit, and changing it again. This might flush the valve.

Thanks, I took my 98 camry to the dealer and the codes are p0500,0755,0770. My mechanic says that I may need a new trans. He still has to check the car.

p0500 the Vehicle Speed Sensor or connection at fault. p0755 the Shift Solenoid B or connection at fault. This is common in older Camrys. p0770 is Shift Solenoid E at fault, also common. The shift solenoids are a simple repair and in Camrys are replaced in pairs with a common wiring harness. None of this indicates yet the need for a replacement transmission.

Are you saying that I do not need a new trans? Please elaborate so I can tell my mechanic. Give me specifics. Happy New Year! Also, when he checked the trans fluid it was somewhat darker than red, which made him detremine a new transmittor. My engine is clean and has been taken care of.

Which pairs? Please help, you may be saving my 20yr. old college student, a small fortune.

I mean that if the speed sensor or its connector has failed, that will confuse the transmission computer (there is one) and cause strange shifting. Also the shift solenoids are supplied in pairs, hanging on a common wiring harness, and if one of these or the connector has a fault, that will cause shift problems. These components can be replaced separately with the tran pan off, and if it is only those at fault, you don\'t need a new trans. With all due respect to the mechanic, he really has to justify an expensive option like that, with good evidence. Why not get a second opinion from a good transmission shop, not at the dealership? Now, if the trans fluid did not look too good, I\'d first try 2 changes of fluid with a bit of driving in between. It might not fix it, but it is a cheap easy option. Don\'t have that done at a dealership though, they will charge a fortune.

    The asterisks stand for "transmission"

Wow, it makes sense to change the solenoids. Hope this works. I will let the mechanic know. I will let you know how this turns out. Fingers crossed. By the way, how did you find this out?

This could be a fault with the shift valve, hopefully just requiring cleaning. This is accessible with the trans pan removed, best done on a hoist.

SOURCE: 1994 Toyota Camry automatic. All forward no reverse

are you sure it is first gear it is making when in 1. In park does the car lock up if you try to push it with the handbrake off. If not your problem is adjustment of the cable i.e. although the lever is in reverse the gearbox isn't.
Cheers John

I have an '09 toyota camry and the navigation system won't work, tried to hard start the system by disconnecting the battery but it still won't work. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I think you will need to access the Nav System with a professional
scanner or scan tool & then use manufacture trouble charts, to even know what the system is supposed to do, & how to diagnose it

Hopefully a repair shop, if they want the job, otherwise blow out
your wallet at a dealer
