The metal bar locking mechanism on my reclining sofa broke. Its a metal frame. Can the broken metal piece be welded?

Depends on the metal because not all metals are the same. There are some that if you try to weld them they just vaporize the instant heat touches them. The only way to know for sure is trial and error. Take that whole assembly off the couch before you try welding it. If you try to weld it on the couch, you'll set the whole couch on fire. You might just want to call the couch manufacturer and see if you can order a replacement. Or take the part to the place you purchased it from to see if they have had any experience with success of getting replacement parts. Most likely they'll say no but be happy to sell you another couch. I would say try welding it; if it works great, if it doesn't you can put it back on and lock it in position and still use the couch, but without the recline.

2001 jeep cherokee steering box is ripping through my frame

If the weld is done properly, it will penetrate through to the other side, All the grease, oil, contaminants must be removed before the weld is made. I mean ALL the contaminants! Then, with a drill motor and a wire brush scrub it thoroughly. blow it off with compressed air and wash it with acetone. I would do everything I could to ensure the back side is every bit as clean, Pressure washing is good. And, of course, remove the steering gear. If the holes are distorted, hammer them flat.

it will start to rust immediately. So, do this right before welding. Then, wire brush it again and paint it with rustoleum, undercoat or something of that nature, Good luck!

Looking for driver seat removal instruction so the broken bracket may be welded. It appears this is not an isolated occurance. Nisson wants 1000-1300 to repair.

Usually you pry off or remove any seat bolt plastic covers,
to get at the bolt heads

Then the nuts are welded into the steel floor pan

As you said, silver braze, braze or tig weld what is broken

Stay away from a dealer after the warrantee runs out

Must disconnect the battery, in case the SRS System (air bag)
is involved under the seat & leave it off until your all back together
& all wires are reconnected

I got a 2006 ford expedition 4x4....the tensioner pulley bearing blew....and it locked into the housing behind it, ate its way through........need to know if thats the motor it ate threw, or if its just a...

This is a job for good ole JB WELD. Unless something is pouring out of the hole you may be lucky and have hit a void in the casting. It sounds like you are in the front timing chain cover area. Take some steel wool, coarse grade, and rub around the opening to expose clean metal. Then use some alcohol,(nondrinking type) and clean the surface.

JB WELD is a good product and you mix it per instruction. Depending on the hole size you can do it in 1 application. Mix it and cover the hole, then spread an amount around the outside of the hole to seal it. Give it time to harden and use enough activator to encouragea quick set.

Keep the remaining JB for years. It can seal oilpans, plastic housings, and in light applications can be as good as welding.

How to change 94 cherokee door hinge.

Do you really need to change the door hinge or did the hinge pull out of the base metal on the body. More than likely the hinge is pulling out of the base metal. If so there are 2 different repair kits that are available through the Chrysler dealer. One kit is for when the hing welds are slightly ripped out and the other is for seriously ripped out. Probably less than $10.00 per hinge for either one. No welding required, bolt on. You will need a torx socket of the correct size to install.

Look at the hinges. If they are bolted and the only problem is they are loose. Try to tighten tem. A tig weld in place will burn odff any paint and if welded poorly you will have alignment problems. The welder will be welding heavy metal to sheet metal The bolts that hold the door on pass through a heavy steel threaded plat behind the sheet metal. Good Luck, Ned

If you need to get a door Id suggest trying a local wrecking yard. If you can try to get the whole hinge assembly and latch as it sounds like there is a possibility that the hinge on your current door is worn out or the latch mechanism is worn. If you are lucky you may even get one that is the same color as your current vehilce color.

I would say that you can most likely weld the torn metal around the latch. Be sure to protect or remove all wireing, upolstery and any thing else that may melt, burn or catch fire due to high tempatures. I would suggest TIG welding if you know someone or a shop that can do it but you are more likely to find a MIG welder which should do a decent job as well.

There is no way that the weld should have broke if properly welded. The man that welded it must have not penatrated the metal or,used wrong prosses The weld filler is ten times stronger then the hardest pease of steal or any other materal on your car. Theres is stick mig tig go to a fab shop and they will weld it were it dont leak
