if a diode is out in the alternator it will possibly charge the battery but also let it drain off overnight hence dead in morning

What are the possible reasons my 97 geo metro won't turn over after running the battery dead, then replacing it with a brand new battery ?

blown fuse.
bad wiring
forgot to charge new battery up to 12.6vdc reseted.
the head lamps work , keys in pocket (by law) and
are #1 first thing to trouble shoot when dead (easiest)
so, got 12v at all under hood fuses? ????????
id bet not. and any $10 voltmeter can find this easy.
buy one. use it. and save a bundle....

I have an astrostart remote hst5224 that has a new battery and it beeps...but nothing else

This remote can operate up to four different vehicles, the default is 2, make sure you are in the correct mode. This is changed by pressing the "P" button on the back of the remote for two seconds, each press advance the mode one position. do this till you find the one that works. There are only four to try

I just put in a brand new battery and it won't start. Absolutely NOTHING! Any quick suggestions? Fuse?

It can be the fuse link from the battery which could have failed and so will not power the igntion circuit. Please use a multimeter to trace the +12 to the fuse box and from the Ignition circuit.
Make sure the GROUND connection is good from the battery to the chassis.

Will not crank. Will not charge with jumper cables. just put brand new alternator on two days ago and a thermostat testerday.

Sounds like the battery should be replaced if it won't charge with jumper cables.

Once the battery is changed, the alternator should charge the new battery if all else is ok.

The thermostat probably has nothing to do with the charge problem.

Battery Won't stay charged, and won't charge either.

So you got a new battery, alternator, and starter. The ticking noise with the starter meant that you had a bad battery so I don't think you needed to have replaced it, but since it was under warranty, didn't hurt.

As for the battery itself when tested, it should not read 10V as that means it's not holding a charge. The battery should read 12-12.5Volts across the leads when the car is off. When the car is running, the battery should be reading 13-14Volts across the leads, anything lower means the alternator is not charging your battery, anything higher means the alternator is over charging.

When turning key all the way over it simply does nothing what could it be

Hi,
You'll likely need a new ignition switch. (The electrical side) You can confirm this by pulling the lower steering cover when issue is occurring, and using a test light on the black and yellow wire when turning key to "Start" position. If test light doesn't illuminate, replace switch. (Easy)
