1996 olds cieria 3100 engine has had three engine failures\r\nanti-freeze in oil replaced first engine second time engine was rebuilt

Sounds like the head gasket. See if it has any warranties on the rebuild to have them redo it. Regardless, you need it replaced. Make sure you also replace the thermostat to a low temp to keep it from overheating. And get the oil pump checked to make sure you getting oil circulation and prevent this from happening again. Good luck.

Thermostat

  1. Some models require you to remove the air cleaner assembly from the throttle body.
  2. Some models with cruise control have a vacuum modulator attached to the thermostat housing with a bracket. It your vehicle is equipped as such, remove the bracket from the housing.
  3. On the 4-cylinder engines, unbolt the water outlet from the thermostat housing, remove the outlet from the housing and lift the thermostat out of the housing. On all other models, unbolt the water outlet from the intake manifold, remove the outlet and lift the thermostat out of the manifold.

!996 oldsmobile ciera is overheating, thermostat is stuck!

Follow the radiator hoses and you will come to the thermostat housing. For your particular car it could be on either the left or right side. i'm almost sure it is on the right side near the radiator cap at the top . The housing is about 3 inches in diameter and formed with a rounded top, and is connected to a radiator hose.It has two bolts that attach it to the engine. The side that does not have this is not the thermostat housing. When you find it. Drain some of the fluid to prevent it from overflowing when you remove the hose. take off the clamps holding the hose.Remove the housing and thermostat. Be careful to install the new Thermostat in the exact same position you removed the old one. And clean the surfaces where the new gasket is going to be installed. To prevent leakage . Replace eveything back making sure the thermostat is in position .( Flat on the surface.) tighten the bolts.Do not over tighten them just a good snug fit. Replace your hoses and , refill the radiator with fluid.
