SOURCE: engine heat light on mazda
First thing to check is coolant level full, dont check with engine hot.Next is the engine cooling fan coming on when engine gets to operating temp. This located behind the radiator. If all this is on then you will need to confirm with a thermometer that the engine coolant is actually getting hotter than 200 degrees.check temp at radiator upper hose connection. If it overheats sitting still with fans running suspect bad thermostat. If it overheats driving suspect clogged radiator. If it is not getting hotter than 200 degrees and light is on suspect bad sending unit.
