Question about 1995 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

Needed to replace both CV joints on a 95 Camry. Passenger side would not come loose. The CV joint comes all in one piece, although my step Dad seemed to think that it could have been pressed into the engine mount brace that the bearing and race are set in. I removed the snap ring and also the bolt that is supposed to release the whole shaft and it wouldn't budge. Is there an easy fix and answer to this problem?

My 2004 alero is making a humming sound on passenger side i jacked it up found cv joint in back at tran is loose. Does that mean it's bad

Yes. That would be the inner cv joint but the entire cv shaft should be replaced. The labor is the same if you are just replacing a boot, so most all cv joints are serviced this way now. The shaft generally costs under $100 and may take a couple hours to replace. There is a seal that should also be replaced at the same time. Left and right sides are different.

Replace axle but not cv joints

"What we have here is a failure to communicate". The axle comes with CV joints on the end. You will be buying the rebuilt assembly. Both axle and CV joints will refer to the same part in a front wheel drive application.

This sounds to me like you have a drive axle (CV-Joint) going bad on the passenger side. Hope this helps, TJ

Pass cv joint will not come out of carier, removed clip, what next ? 97 toyota avalon...

This is for the removal of the passenger side cv joint. If the Avalon carrier is like the Camry you will have to remove the snap ring and the set bolt. You have 2 choices to get the carrier bearing out,(1) remove bracket, and take it out with the cv joint as yiu noticed the bolts are in tight spot (2) You will need a torch with a rose bud tip and put a lot of heat (red hot)on the cast iron bracket and be in postion to hit the cv joint bearing (on the tire side of carrier) with a hammer and drive it out. This is the way I prefer but, take caution with flame. Do step 2 only if you are planning on replacing the cv joint anyway.

There is a noise from the front end of my 2001 odyssey which became noticeable about 400 km ago. It started out as a clicking/knocking sound and is cyclical with wheel/driveline rotation/speed and would be...

it sure sounds like wheel bearings, however, the clicking/knocking sound is more related to the cv joints.
If the spindle nut was loose, it would account for a knocking sound/feel as well. Have the bearings checked before you spend crazy amounts on cv joints.

Trying to get the bearing off of the cv axle 1994 camry

I think you mean cv joint. If so, a new axle cost $59. You are doing alot of extra work and the joints could be damaged. The outer joint comes off, but it takes a large hammer. The inner joint usually has an inboard ring clip that you pop out with a screwdriver.

I need to replace the axle on my toyota camry

The CV joint boots? Hah.. if you've never done it before get a mechanic to do it. You'll just run into more and more problems if you mess up. There's more to it then just replacing the boot. You'll also need to check the cv joints for damage and repack them with high pressure grease.
