There is no easy way to do this..you will need a tester I will tell you how to find each wire.. To find the battery wire.. That is the only wire there with constant power with the keys out of the ignition.. Use the tester to find it.. The ignition wire turn the ignition on and jts the other wire with 12v besides the battery wire.. For ground or negative use any metal part of the car body of the black wire.. For the speakers you will need to look at the wires connecting to them..

I've run into this quite a few times. Trial and error has worked best for me.

Generally, the ground wire is Black, your main power will be a larger Red wire. Your accessory wire (the wire that sends power when the key is turned on) is Yellow, or another Red. Your speaker wires are usually the same colors. Such as, two purples. One of them solid (usually negative), the other with a stripe, dashes, or similar (usually positive).

First determine the power by connecting the ground and the two powers. If the radio comes on with the key on, it's correct. Then hook-up one speaker at a time to determine which is which. Writing down the colors of each. If you don't know the wiring on the radio, simply fade and balance it to one speaker at a time.

Good luck.

I just got a Insignia cd/stereo/MP3 car radio and I really need an installation manual. Lots of wires, colors, don't know what they power. Where can I get the manual? It's going in my 01 Dodge Ram

Greg,

Do yourself a HUGE favor. Drop $8 on a radio wiring harness connector. You wire it to the aftermarket radio while sitting at your kitchen table. When done, yank the factory radio and simply PLUG IN the new radio directly into the truck's wiring harness. Done! No cutting of your truck's wires, splicing, taping or hanging upside-down making connections. Plus, when it's time to sell the truck - you can pull out your radio and dump the factory radio back in the truck in no time.

Im putting n a stereo but i dont no the color code

The stereo side of the wires should be labeled. Check out the12volt.com for a wiring schematic for the truck side. I advise against cutting and splicing wires for a stereo installation though. They make inexpensive harness adapters that will allow you to splice into the stereo harness without cutting into the factory wiring.
