2006 chevy cobalt "reduced eng pwr" warning came on today

When driving today my car slowed down and was sputtering and a warning message came on that said "reduced eng pwr." When this happened that car would not go over 35MPH. I was able to get home and stop the car, I turned it off for a few minutes and checked the oil, it was a little low but not dry. I then started the car back up and it seemed fine, i even drove it around a little and it seemed fine but now the check engine light is on. do you know what the problem could be?

thanks,
Daniel

I havw the same problem. Unplugged the emission cotrol fuse to check it then the engine started running bad again. Shut the car off, plugged the fuse back in, now it won't start at all. Someone at the parts store said it might be the theft prevention system. Is this possible?

2006 chevy cobalt, automatic transmission first it started i couldn't take key out of ignition, it then was ok, had it checked by dealership who in turn told me it needed a 'shifter' and a new key sincr mine is just slightly bent, but then it started running fine again, this week it wouldn't start evenafter boosting with another car. also it's telling me 'engine power reduced' and it will NOT start, could someone please tell me what's wrong with it ? thank You

I have had this same problem with my car. I have had it in the shop numerous times and replaced about everything except body parts... Every time something new works for about a week and then ENG PWR REDUCED..not sure where to go from here.

I have had the same problem with mine. I have had it in two shops and replaced about 1000.00 worth of parts. I drove it for one whole week with no problems. On my way to work today ENG PWR REDUCED again.... not sure where to go from here.

Same thing. Engine power down when I am usually going over 45 mpg. I am afraid to drive on interstate because of this. I have it sputter and die when I am sitting idle as well.

I too had this same issue just last week. No check engine light or code would trip when it stalled and shut off. I kept it in park and kept giving it gas until it would shut off to try and pinpoint where it was coming from. Coolant fine, oil level fine. Finally I tripped the Engine Power Reduced code on the dash. Engine was knocking and shaking and kept dying at this point. Pulled the spark plugs, pretty nasty looking. Went to Advanced Auto Parts and got 4 new spark plugs for a grand total of 24 bucks. After putting it all back together and taking a test drive it drove better than it had when I first bought it. I know I see a lot of other things that have worked as well on here, but if you're stumped this could save you some big money.

It is either the Oil or the Coolant.

Chevy HHR 2008 LT 2.4. Message ESC OFF, SERVICE TRACTION, and ENG PWR REDUCED. What to do? Can I drive car whit this problem.

Hello and welcome. the engine reduce power waraning is the key to the other problems. this is normally a problem with the electronic throttle system. the engine control module disables the traction control system when it detects a engine problem, in your case a problem with the electronic throttle system. you shouldnt drive with this concern. this is normally covered under the vehicles 100,000 mile warranty. you need to conteact your nearest dealer for help

Check the drive belt, and the alternator, most likely if the belt is still on,and it is running on the pulleys ok,then the alternator maybe out, have it checked, with out the alternator working the engine will not perform.

Why does reduce engine power light comes on chevy

That is a hard problem to pin point without knowing what codes the computer has stored. It can be any number or sensors or engine problems.

You can go to most auto parts stores and they will pull the codes for you for free.

Overheating

215 is not overheating. Does it keep getting hotter the faster you go? Does it cool off when slowing down or at idle? Does the Fan clutch or electric fan come on? When the engine is this hot.
