SOURCE: How to uninstall a blower motor on a 1999 GMC JIMMY

Yeah if you have to tap on it, then that means the brushes in the motor are worn out and you need to replace it. The blower motor is behind the PCM and Coolant Overflow bottle. If you remove these then it will give you better access to motor. You'll have to cut around housing. There should be a groove already there for you, just make sure you don't cut all the way around it. Once you open it and get the new one installed, you'll have to use caulk to seal where you cut it at.

SOURCE: wath P1406 Code means on a GMC jimmy 1996,

It's an egr valve problem (exhaust gas return) egr position sensor.
Take off the egr valve and turn it over and see if there is carbon build up in the ports, if there is clean it out with a pipe cleaner and a little carbon cleaner, just spray a little into the ports and clean it out. If that doesn't cure the problem, then either the sensor needs replacing, and or the egr valve.

Blower motor not working

I had a similar problem with my Jimmy and it turned out to be the switch on the dash. But the easiest way to rule out the blower motor is to apply 12 volts directly to the blower motor itself, if that works move to testing the switch.
