Only adding up yes sounds like pump, but maybe contamination in fluid as well i would recomment flushing it and looking for damage at steering rack as well because a bad rack will also damage a good pump.

sounds like it is out of fluid if you fill the fluid then turn the wheel to one side and hold it you will build up pressure and see where it leaking from.

Ford focus fault finding

I don't know what a "early" sound is, but there are several problems that can cause a screech: the commonest is a slipping power-steering belt combined with a stiffness in the steering rack. The cheapest is probably a stone caught between the brake pads and disc. So first check your tyre pressures, then check your brakes finally, take it to a garage to have the power-steering looked at.

Steering box leak

Hi,try putting a stop leak additive in the power-steering-pump reservare to stop the leak, and the screeching could be comeing from the belt that runs the power-steering-pump-pully.(It sounds like it might be slipping so will need adjusted).
Hope this was some help.

Screeching noise coming from belt area. just replaced powere steering pump & belt & this started.

The screeching is the belt slipping, two possibilities, either the belt is not tight enough, or you have fitted a faulty pump which is putting to much resistance on the belt? If it carries on screeching for any length of time it will break. Check your alternator belt tension, if you had to remove and refit that? Quick check for alternator belt is, switch on headlights, does the screech get louder? Don't over tighten the belts, this puts stress on bearings!

When steering its hard to turneither way and battery and brake light comes on

sounds like your fan belt is slipping ! hence that why the battery light comes on because alternator isnt turning or turning slowly and your power steering pump wont be turning also ,,,making steering difficult ! fan belts can be adjusted at the alternator i think thanks :)

Screeching sound remains

Your AC pump is starting to faiL. It's starting to bind and putting heavy back pressure on the belt causing it slip and screech. After the car cools off inside, the load on the AC compressor is lower and the sound will die down. Also when the belt gets hot it gets a little more flexible and grippy which also lowers sound.

Take it to an auto AC repair place and have it checked.

Just replaced power steering pump and now when i turn it on it screeches. what do i do?

Sounds like a loose or worn belt, fitting new steering will put a little more strain on the pump, thus letting the belt slip and "squeal".

2000 hyundai accent - bad screeching sound coming from the belts.

hi as the timing belt is toothed it would not slip however it may be loose and in need of renew? as you do not mention milage ie period the belt is due for replacement ? the screech if this above is problem? would/could be the belt slip on the adjuster bearing which should also be renewed with belt i would first check out the alternator/p/steer belt as the loading of belt if slack/worne when starting from cold will give screech as it starts to overcome load of alter and especially p/steer oil pump then noise ceases as engine warms?? if you drop this belt off bfore you first start from cold ? would give an indication of which belt req's attention ? ps! as for age of car/milage? would not ignore the recommended milage for timing belt renewal ? hope this helps you diagnose problem ?

Steering wheel

Have the belt checked. Your Tercel has one (or more, sorry I'm not sure) belt that spins the pulleys of different engine components.See if you can turn the wheel while someone looks at the belt. Does it seem to 'slip' or squeal, screech? One of the components is the power steering pump, another is the air conditioner. If the belt is slipping the engine components won't be 'powered', or in other words, they won't work properly. It sounds like it could be a problem with a belt, is there any unusual noise when turning the steering wheel when it becomes stiff? Did both problems occur at the same time? Please let me know so I can provide more info if needed. countrycurt0
