SOURCE: I NEED TO RESET MY 2005 CHEVROLET IMPALA

You will have to pull the steering wheel off and then the turn signal switch, under that is a release pin to remove the lock cylinder. Since you will have to remove the airbag on the wheel obtain and follow exactly the disarming instructions for the airbag system, if it goes off because it was not disarmed then very serious injury can result.

SOURCE: Need to replace ignition cylinder on 2000 Impala

Pop off the black ring around ignition lock small screwdriver willl do. Remove dashboard plastic to expose 2 bolts holding ignition assy. Can be tedious. IF you can turn the key turn it to Start. In the plastic housing there's a 1/4 by 3/8 hole. push in a screwdriver which will push in a button on ignition cylinder and allow you to slide it out. The hole is located at 4 o'clock if we agree that the 2 wiring harness plugs are at 6 o clock and its 1 and 1/4 inches below the face of ignition cylinder. If you dont feel that the screwdriver is pushing in that "button" rotate your key until it does. Then just slide the cylinder out.

How to remove an ignition switch for replace/repair on an 86 Chevrolet K10 pickup

the ignition switch is screwed to the top of the steering column under the dash. it' operated by a rod connected to the lock cylinder. ignition switch is easily changed, however the lock cylinder requires the removal of the steering wheel and turn signal switch. steering wheel requires a puller to remove. turn signal is secured with 3 phillips screws. lock cylinder is retained by a phillips screw also. this screw has abnormal threads, only one that looks like that. this truck uses a saginaw steering column, same as dodge in these years.

The key has to be in the switch, battery unhooked, turn key to start position, insert probe into small hole above cylinder to trip the wedge, and pull out.

I want to install points on a 1953 Chevy 216 six cylinder engine

Hello! Pull the coil wire...Remove distributor cap...Remove old points...Install new points but do not tighten mounting screw (just snug)...While someone "taps" ignition key watch for point set tab to ride to the top of a cam lobe...Stop when tab is at the top of a lobe...Use a match book cover as a gauge to set the point gap...Tighten screw when gauge just passes point gap...

How do you change a key switch in a 2001 chevy impala, the factory keys wont turn in the switch

If your key is worn try getting a new one cut.
The ignition lock cylinder and keys do not contain any coded electronic components. The lock cylinder housing contains the coded electronic components. Changing an ignition lock cylinder or replacing a key is a purely mechanical process which does not affect the vehicle theft deterrent system. To replace an existing key, simply cut a new key to match the existing one. If no keys are available, the lock cylinder must be changed. To change the lock cylinder, simply replace the existing lock cylinder with one of the same type.
If you are unable to operate the ignition cylinder with a new key then you will probably need to replace the cylinder and switch.Replacement of the switch involves reprogramming
The system may be programmed with or without a scan tool.
There is a way to get the cylinder out without replacing the switch but this procedure should be performed by a qualified GM technician as it involves removal of the switch and some precise drilling.

Ignition switch

You wrote ignition switch/lock cylinder. Which part did you replace? The ignition switch or the ignition lock cylinder? The electrical ignition switch is what is bad.
