Question about 1999 Hyundai Accent
Hi, My 1999 Hyunday Excel X3, or Accent X3 as it's known in the US, has been having ongoing issues for the last couple of months. Initially it would intermittently stall while idling. It wouldn't always happen, just sometimes. I'd then have to wait 15-20 minutes before it would start again. Since then I've changed the spark plugs, fuel pump, engine air filter, I've had a full service on it and the problem continued. Mechanic put it on the computer and came back with no error codes. So I continued driving it and the stalling problem continued to happen every so often. Radio, lights, everything works when the car is dead and we've checked the battery and it's coming up fine. Since then the car started struggling just driving normally. Now the car won't start at all... really. It cranks but then the whole car sort of shakes and vibrates and it struggles to start. Sometimes it'll just die trying to start, other times it'll sort-of start where the whole car is shaking like crazy just struggling to idle. Please help me, it's driving me bananas. The car only has 165000KMs on it. It's the DOHC 1.5L engine. Thank you!
This is starting to sound very much like a blocked catalytic converter on the exhaust system. Try unbolting the exhaust in front of the catalytic unit and see if it will start and run normally. If it does then the unit needs replacing, if not then thats me tapped out for ideas.

If your having a check engine light come on you'll need to find out what it's for, you can do this by using a OBD II diagnostics tool to retrieve the trouble codes from your pcm "powertrain control module", without knowing the trouble code stored in your pcm it could take hours of troubleshooting to find out whats wrong with your vehicle, you can buy a OBD II diagnostics tool at a auto parts store, if you don't want to buy one some auto parts stores will do the test on your vehicle at no cost, Thanks for using fixya.

hello, if you car stalls instanly maybe your ignition system has a loose connection or even has a short somewhere. but if it coughing but still trying to idle normally maybe your carb dirty. one thing, some carbs has a solenoid air switch attached on one of its side. if this solenoid is shorted damaged you'll have the same effect. hope this helps.
