Remove the Glove Box and it is the Silver Box Behind it. Unscrew and Disconnect the Harness. Reverse to Install.

Engine light on

That is a good question but the answer is POSSIBLE but generally NO... and I will explain why

O2 Sensors read the amount of Unburned fuel in the Exhaust and sends the readings back to the Computer. So the computer gets the readings from BEFORE and AFTER the Catalytic converter and "METERS" the amount of fuel it puts into the engine.

The Timing Belt is what keeps the CRANKSHAFT and CAMSHAFT in perfect harmony so that Valves open and Close at the right time. Spark Plugs are firing the Fuel at precisely the right time... All the Orchestra is done by the Timing Belt.

Now, if the Timing Belt was installed improperly (which is VERY EASY TO DO), you would notice a slight sluggish or poorly running engine. Your engine will run being 2-3 teeth off. But you would notice it being off by the way it runs

So can it effect the O2 Sensor? It could but not normally if your car is running properly

No power when accelerating

Most of the time it takes the computer a couple of days of driving before it operates correctly when installing new o2's

My 2004 engine light is on and I installed a new egr, mechanic said that I needed a new on board computer, and that there are none to be had in Canada or the US

Better be sure it needs a computer, because if you buy it, its yours. I would get the dealer or another second opinion.

Engine computer replaced.

By reset do you mean program? If so, you'd have to bring your vehicle to the dealer and have them "reflash" the computer. If that's not what you mean, please elaborate.

When I fill up gas the "service engine soon" light comes on.

You need to find out what code is being set by the computer...Have the car scanned before you go any farther.....

Service Engine Soon

Hi,

A couple of things you can try:
  • remove the negative battery terminal to reset your car's computer. There are some car stereos that would require a security code when the battery is removed;
  • on your next fill up, try if you can get a higher octane gas instead of your normal, say if you use to put in 91, shift temporarily to 95;
  • add a can of injector/carb cleaner in your gas tank;
  • on a long stretch, drive aggressively and hard. The idea is to clean your fuel system, combustion chamber, valves, exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, exhaust system including your EGR and O2 sensors.
If error indicator persist, trace the EGR wiring with special attention to the connectors at the ends.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
