SOURCE: 1998 Dodge Stratus

i think you have corroded wires around the fuel pump harness creating a short circuit which is probably blowing the fuse.

SOURCE: 30 amp ignition fuse in engine compartment blows at start

It sounds like a bad ignition switch or something is grounding out.Try to isolate the problem to key positions.See if the fuse blows when you turn the key to ACC(when your dash lights come on without starting)If the fuse does not blow then when you go to start it and it blows it could be one of many problems, the more common ones could be ignition switch, wiring, starter relay, starter soleniod,or perhaps the starter itself is shorting out, this can sometimes happen when a starter goes bad.

Sounds like the fuel pump could be shorted or seized. I would begin troubleshooting there. It may need replacing.

SOURCE: 98 stratus won't start

Replaced the fuse and the car would attempt to crank but not start and the fuse would burn. Repaired the cigarette lighter and changed the ignition fuse but fuse continued to burnout. Pulled the accessory fuse and car attempted to start without the ignition fuse blowing. Put the accessory fuse back in place and the car started up no problem,

2002 Old ALERO drove home find didn't start later turned over fine but didn't fire replaced fule pump about 2 months ago

Pull a plug wire , set the end close to the engine, crank it and watch for spark. No spark could be the cranks sensor, wires, ignition module , fuse, or PCM. Have the codes read. Could be the fuel pump too. I have had them die shortly after installs.

For some reason the fuse for the sunroof keeps blowing as soon as i replace it in my olds alero

blowing fuses normally indicate a short circuit, bypass the switch with a hot wire to determine fault in switch or motor.

My daughter has a 1998 Avenger as soon as the car starts it blows a 30 amp fuse in the engine compartment which is simply marked ENGINE. After this fuse blows the car will not even try to start the lights...

sounds like you have a short in the electrical system between the ignition and the fuse box. it might be metal to metal somewhere inbetween in the wiring that is makeing the fuse blow out everytime
