Question about 2000 Volkswagen Golf

Engine cuts and takes long to restart

When driving the car, after a bit it cuts off. I then have to wait anywhere from 15 - 30 mins. to start it back up again.

It doesn't seem to matter the weather as this has happened in both hot and cold conditions.

At this present moment, the car will not start at all.

I have a similar problem with my VW Polo 1.6. It starts up fine in the morning. But once I shut it off and try to restart it a short time later, I battle to get it started.

I have sent it to the agents for a service and a look over. They came back with nothing. Any help will be appreciated.

If it is a diesel it might be the same issue as I also had with mine. What VW does not do well is tell you in their TDI diesels you need to use a 505.01 approved oil otherwise your camshaft lobes will be rounded off to circles and not tear drop shape like they normally are. Most lube places don't have the correct oil that is approved by VW and it leaded to the premature engine wear. I have 88K on mine and they said the engine if blown and sounds like the turbo is going out also. You might get a diag. at a VW shop to see if that is it! Hope you find the problem!

The true problem with my VW was there was a significant amount of water or gasoline in my fuel tank so the car died on me me when driving up hill, or with sudden drop on rpm. What ever you do do not try to continuously try to crank the engine because it could damage the starter. Rev your engine to about 2000rpm and keep your foot in a consistent position and if RPM jumps around it sounds like water or gasoline mixed in diesel or also boost problem with turbo. I doubt problems with turbo if your milage is under 100K. I had exact problems you had and that was my solution. Let me know if you have found out the problem. Get multiple opinions also as I had a mis-diagnosis on my VW. Good luck!

What would cause my car to cut off while driving?

Sounds like a power relay or breaker that is getting weak. Over time electrical components break down from heat. Without having a schematic cant tell you where to look!

1993 chevy cavalier 2.2 engine cuts off when cold or hot

Someone will need to check it over when it fails to start. You need to know if it is not getting fuel to the injectors or spark to the plugs.

How to change alternator belt on 98 mitsubishi galant es, i looked under the hood and a belt was shredded. i took it off and the car still started but when i cut the car off it wouldnt start back up, i...

Most likely what is happening is that either the fan/water pump is no longer being turned by the engine, which it needs the belt on for (Assuming it's a '98, not an '89), causing it to overheat, or the battery is being drained because the belt being off the alternator is causing the alternator to not turn, therefor producing no power. Make sure no shards of old belts remain, and put on the new belt. That should solve the problems.

2005 amanti shifts at odd times

It is not a problem. Amanti is equipped w/driver adaptive system = continually adjusts to varying driving habits, e. g gentle take-off vs. fast or city driving vs hi-way. This optimizes engine power while being good on gas. Feature is common among luxury cars, incl. Mercedes.
