Two things come to mind. You broke the pressure seal to the fuel system when you took off the gas cap. The fresh gas rushing in disturbs any dirt or debris on the bottom of the tank.
Next time you use the car when you arrive at our destination, simulate what you do when you fuel up. This will mimic everythig except the new fuel rushing in. If it is still hard to start you know it's something to do with the evaporative fuel system. If not, you need the fuel tank inspected .

SOURCE: we have a kia sportage that wont take gas when

have someone check the vent valve and hose, a common problem is spiders go inside the vent hose and make a web nest, this blocks the system. so when filling the tank the air in the tank cant be release and so pump shut off and fuel sparys out, take a look , bet youll find a spiders nest.

Engine keeps shutting off on me while opening the gas cap

You should turn the engine off when fueling anyway, but, it probably loses back pressure in the tank and makes your engine stall.

Kia rondo 2007 Engine keeps shutting off on me while opening the gas cap

You might have something wrong with your evap system where something is staying open or closed when it shouldn't and you opening the gas cap starts a vacuum and floods the engine.

Car has trouble starting right after i put gas this is the only time it happens

I have heard of this problem with a number of vehicles. The solution is to not fill your tank to the very top. The reason for this suggestion is that your car, as other cars, has an emissions system that absorbs fumes from your fuel tank and puts the fumes back into your engine. If you over fill, you tend to, for a lack of a better word, DROWNED your system therefore you CHOKE. Some one else could describe this in a more technical way, but if you can get used to letting your tank fill till the gas nozzle shuts off automatically , STOP don't try to fill to the brim . I believe this will help you. GOOD LUCK..

Were is the fuel filter located on a 2007 Kia Rondo

IT IS INSIDE THE FUEL TANK . IT IS MADE INSIDE THE FUEL PUMP IT IS SERVIECABLE AND RECOMMENDED EVERY 30K . THERE IS A ACCESS TO THE TANK UNDER THE SEAT THERE IS A FEW SCREWS THAT HOLD IT A COVER DOWN REMOVE THIS AND YOU CAN ACCESS .
REOMOVE FUEL PUMP AND TAKE APART THE ACTUAL PUMP SEATS INSIDE THE FILTER .IF YOU TRY TO DO IT YOURSELT BE SURE NOT TO FORGET ANY O RINGS THEY TEND TO STAY IN THE OLD FILTER WHEN REPLACING AND IF YOU DONT SWAP OVER THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START

I have a 2005 Kia sedona and when I try to put more than 2 gallons of gas in the tank it spits it out. Is this a costly fix. I feel like this may something i can fix my self.

I doubt if it is a repair at all. If I don't pay attention when I activate a pump it shuts if like it was full every couple of seconds. Because everyone is in a hurry now days they have started upping the pressure for filling tanks which causes the fill tubes to fill faster than they can empty into the tank, by the way it is crimped a little inside the tank. they started adding a crimp to the end that goes into the tank a few years back to cut back gas siphoning. The other question I would be asking about this is Do you have any enemies out there that like to play practical jokes? A ping pong ball shoved into the fill tube to your gas tank will cause this to happen. I had to get used to filling the tank without using the clip on the pump handle and reduce the flow into the tank in order to get past this problem.

2007 kia rondo seems to use alot of gas

I have the same issue of low gas mileage. My 2008 Kia Rondo with V6 (2.7Lt) gets 20-21 mpg in average. Even for highway mileage, it is around 21-22mpg. Very poor gas mileage. Disappointed. I hope it would improve in the future.
