Question about 1991 Hyundai Excel 4 Door

1 Answer

1991 Hyundai Excel continuous blink on ECM and car won't start.

My car won't start.  it turns over but doesn't start.  We have spark.  Fuel before the injectors for sure, but not sure if injectors are working.  The ECM was previously showing a code 14, the throttle sensor.  This has been replaced.  Battery has been disconnected and reconnect to clear the ECM.  Now the ECM diagnostic line flashes continuously.  Any ideas where to go next?

I am not sure if the continuous blinking means it is defective.  It worked just fine before we disconnected the battery and reconnected it.
As to water in the gas, we have already drained the tank while replacing the fuel pump.

Drian the gas and let it sit for a couple of hours. make sure ALL liquid is out of the tank. do that because there might be some water in the gas.

change the ignition pick up coil assembly normally located on the distributor under the rotor on the bottom of the distributor or just replace the distributor

98 hyundai excel wont start has no earth to fuel pump from ecm

A couple dollars worth of wire and ends or a new ecm or possible wire harness? The car is 14 years old and quite frankly what you are doing is the best solution to the problem. Chasing down a new wire harness or faulty pin connectors or new ECM would cost you waaaayyyyy more than the car is worth. Hope this helps.

Dear Fixya, My 1993 excel hyundai turns over but won't start, we put plugs and wires and new fuel gasket. we r wondering where the fuel pump is, is there one or two pumps and how to get to them to fix...

Have you checked for spark first? Sometimes a car won't start due to no spark. This condition is usually caused by: Security system, bad ignition module, crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor. You check it by pulling a plug wire and putting a screwdriver in the wire to see if it arcs. If it is getting fire look for the fuel pressure release valve usually located on the fuel rail, looks like a tire valve stem. If it shoots out gas, and you hear the fuel pump prime, check the fuel pressure regulator. It could also be the timing. There are four things needed for a car to start: fuel, spark, timing, compression. As for your question, as far as I know there is one fuel pump, you have to drop the tank to fix it. Hope this helps.

My 2004 hyundai sonata will not crank. It turns over but won't catch.

check to see if getting spark or fuel if no spark could be crank sensor or cam sensor have to check voltage out of wiring harness if low voltage ecm bad. Pull both coil wires off coil and have someone turn ignition no spark probably ecm. For fuel check number one plug see if wet and also listen when you turn key for fuel pump. If driving it just died on ya and battery went dead like know and you tried jumping or replacing battery.Still would not start ecm bad.

I have a 1991 Hyundai excel and one of the pistons doesn't fire

Have you measured the compression? Very low compression can be the reason. And the reason for low compression can vary - broken compression ring, worn valve/valve seat... You are sure you are getting a spark, just before the spark plug, right? Have you checked the timing of ignition?

If it has a dizzy then you need to check the ignition module, these are normally mounted inside the distributor.
