Question about 1998 Toyota RAV4

1 Answer

Where is the clutch fluid refill located on a 1998 toyota rav4. I found the brake fluid reservoir, but am not seeing a reservoir for clutch fluid. Any help

Recently, I've had trouble getting into 1st gear (5 speed manual transmission) Most of the time it works, but occasionally it just won't go into first. Someone suggested I check the brake fluid, I did and it's full. Then I was told to check the clutch fluid, but am unable to find the reservoir. I was told it should be right next to the brake fluid reservoir on top, but no such luck. Am I looking in the wrong place?? Does it even exist?? Any help would be appreciated.

The master cylinder for the clutch is under the hood on the driver side under the plastic cover and the cruise control linkage right of the brake master cylinder. If you follow the tube on the clutch master cylinder it is connected to the brake master cylinder reservoir. I just replaced the clutch master cylinder on my 97 RAV the location has not changed on the 98.

If you look at the drivers side of the brake fluid reservoir you should see a rubber hose that feeds to the clutch master cylinder. The clutch master cylinder is kept full via the brake fluid reservoir.

SOURCE: Hydraulic Clutch Problem in an 82 Toyota Pickup

If you are leaking fluid from the clutch master cylinder then you have air in the system. You could try and bleed the air out of the clutch slave cylinder to get the gears but it would not last. The only way is to replace the defective master cylinder, replace all of the fluid and bleed out the air through the slave cylinder.

SOURCE: '00 Toyota 4Runner manual transmission slipping out of first gear

The problem is most likely internal. Sounds like it could be the synchronizer or maybe the gear itself. Hard to say until you take it apart and look at it. I guess a price range of around $1000-$1500 to rebuild, repair costs depend on what parts needed, cost of parts, labor/time involved.

Hi there
Your rattling noise in engine bay ,dose it do it only when you start up, and if so dose the rattle go when the oil light on dash goes out, If yes then its either Low in oil/your parking on a slope/engine bearings worn/oil filter change and change oil to 30/50 oil.
you should only downshift to 1st whan stopped but you can change up and down the g/box without a clutch with correct Revs

Where is the clutch fluid located on Toyota hiace 1998 ?

Under the hood, on the firewall, there is the clutch master cylinder with a reservoir on it. This is where the fluid goes. Uses brake fluid, just like the brake master cylinder, also on the firewall. The clutch master only has one line coming from it-the line that goes to the clutch slave cylinder.

Can you show me pi cure of clutch fluid reservoir and its location on 1998 ford escort

if you don't see any clutch fluid reservoir for the clutch, there are two possibilities: clutch master shares fluid reservoir with the brakes or clutch is using cable not hydraulic.

Where is the transmission cable located on 1998 corolla

Clutch cable? Actually, I think you'd have a hydraulic clutch. If it's cable, it would come out of the firewall, where your clutch pedal operates, and down to the transmission. If it's hydraulic, there'd be a clutch reservoir just beside your brake reservoir on the firewall, with a hose leading down to a "clutch slave cylinder" mounted on your transmission. If you have no clutch, this slave cylinder can be easily bled of air and will gravity feed new fluid to the cylinder.

The clutch in my 1998 Toyota celica has been slipping lately and I need to replace it. I was wondering if the clutch is hydraulic and what kind of tools I would need to replace it.

Most Toyota cars are hydraulic. To be sure you should see a fluid reservoir at the driver's side near the brake master. For getting the clutch out you need your set of wrenches, cross wrench to remove the wheels, jack and replacement parts.

Under the hood, where do you put in the steering fluid and the brake fluid on a 1996 rav4

The brake fluid is located at the drivers side of the firewall, down from the windshield wiper, on the steering column side. The power steering fluid reservoir is located on the engine where the belts or belt is, that turns all the components.

Clutch will not disengage pedal to the floor

Sounds like a Clutch Slave Cylinder. Check under your front canopy for a small reservoir (looks like a brake fluid reservoir) on the firewall inline with the brake pedal or it may be up under the dash. Check the fluid level. If it is low or empty you could refill it and bleed (drain the air) from the slave cylinder line, found where the transmision and engine connect. Just adding fluid wont fix it, as if it is this simple, you have air in the hydraulic line. This would be an easy fix. However, I think your Slave cylinder failed or you have a more serious clutch replacement ahead. The slave is easy, bolts on and then you just bleed the line as noted before. Any shop could replace a slave cylinder for 2-3 hours of labor. Good luck
