1990 Chevrolet Cavalier 2.2L TBI 4cyl
The Crankshaft Position Sensor is located under hood, center, rear engine area, below ingnition coil pack and DIS module, mounted in engine block.

Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor
A magnetic crankshaft sensor (Hall Effect switch) is used which is remotely mounted on the opposite side of the engine from the DIS/IC module. The sensor protrudes in to the engine block, within about 0.050 in. (1.27mm) of the crankshaft reluctor.

oil pan, or rear mainseal housings are common leaks on these... also if 4wd, diff runs thru oil pan..

Find where the throttle cable goes the the throttle body. Now on the opposite side of the throttle body is the TPS 3 wires/plug.

SOURCE: How do you replace the crankshaft position sensor

That should be right behind the harmonic balancer in frt of the engine the crank sensor should bolt into the timing chain cover.remove bolt and with a twisting action pull sensor straight up.

You didn't state which one you were looking for, so here's location of both. The 3X (low resolution) crank sensor is on right side of cylinder block forward of starter solenoid----The 24X (high resolution) crank sensor is at crankshaft pulley.

I believe it is actually a Crankshaft Sensor on the Back side of the Engine and reads off the Flywheel

should be on bottom of crank on left side behind the pulley.. the big metal ring with teeth on it on front side of motor..

THE PART IS NOT THAT EXPENSIVE.YOU CAN JACK THE CAR UP AND LOOK UNDER THE HARMONIC BALANCER ,ITS RIGHT THERE 1 BOLT HOLDS IT IN.

Misfire was detected on the cylinder 6 and now it says random multiple misfire when you rev up the engine on my 98 chevy camaro v6 3.8liter


I had that type of problem and after much diagnosis they found that the crank sensor was slightly dislodged.

sounds like it is in limp mode
try removing the negative battery cable for ten minutes
