This could possible be a faulty gauge if it didn't do that before in which case it needs replacing.

the reason why i said didn't do that before is that some vehicles send out a test signal in your case 80psi in which keeps the gauge at that position.

oil pressure will be between 57 to 80 psi 57 will be at idle and 80 will be at rpms over 2000
oil with a viscosity of 15 w30 will be lower around 50 psi while oil with a viscosity of 30w-50 will be higher.

COULD HAVE FAULTY OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT.CHECK OIL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 25 - 80 PSI AT 3000 RPM. 30 - 80 PSI AT 3000 RPM.

Oil presure drops when warmed up

That's normal, unless it drops below 20 - 25 psi, if the oil is new, the psi can reach 80 psi, when warmed up can drop to 40 psi, try changeing the oil and filter, 10w - 30w should be good.

Is the oil gauge in a 2006 1500 4 x 4 silverado suppose to at 80 all the time?

80 PSI is within operating range, but all the time would suggest that it stays there even after you turn your engine off and does not increase incrementally when engine is first turned on. If that is the case you have a faulty oil pressure sending unit or a stuck gauge.

Oil pressure gauge is reading 80 psi. I had the

The oil sending unit is located on the engine block behind the drivers cylinder head area. You have to climb up on the motor to see it cause it is hard to see behind the wiring harness. You may also want to purchase a new sending unit because it is very long and you might need to buy the sending unit socket to replace it.Hope this helps.Good luck.

What is the correct oil pressure for a chevy 2000 3500 vortex engine

Wild guess of 40 to 60 psi at highest, and more like 10 at idle.

While driving the oil pressure gauge sits between 60 and 65 psi but when i get on the gas it shoots up to 80 psi. When idling it sits on 40 psi.

When the engine is idling, the oil pressure is reduced. At fast idle (such as highway speed) it in increases. This is considered normal. If it goes higher than 80 or lower than 40...have it checked out.

80 is on the high side for those... possibly a sending unit issue

Oil pressure gauge reads 80 psi with engine off and pegs running

That is probably a defective oil pressure gauge or a broken oil pressure sender, it reads 80 psi just because that is the maximum value allowed.

Pressure can be verified by reading it with a gauge tool.
If you really have pressure over 70 psi when engine is running then start replacing the oil filter, and check that the oil lines from pump are not obstructed, if there is nothing in there then replace oil pump.

If instead the gauge reads 80 with engine off, that is a defective pressure gauge.
