Very Easy actually. All you need to do is find the water pump outlet. Should look like a cast metal elbow. Remove this elbow and the Thermostat is located inside this elbow. Replace thermostat and seal. replace and you are all done. Most work will likely be preformed under vehicle so be ready for fluids to drain. Refill to appropriate levels and your done!

If the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects the calibrated amount of air flow and engine run time have been met, and the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) has not met the minimum thermostat regulating temperature, the code P0128 will set. Possible symptoms - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light) P0128 Buick Description An Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor monitors the temperature of the coolant. This input is used by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) for engine control and as an enabling criteria for some diagnosis. The air flow coming into the engine is accumulated and used to determine if the vehicle has been driven within the conditions that would allow the engine coolant to heat up normally to the thermostat regulating temperature. If the coolant temperature does not increase normally or does not reach the regulating temperature of the thermostat, the diagnostic that use ECT as enabling criteria may not run when expected.

Regarding which thermostat to use, I am guessing it depends on where you live.

Ask these people when you order the thermostat.

How hard is it to change the thermostat on a 2002 grand am v6?

Not hard at all. Looking at the vehicle on the right side you should see the upper radiator hose, connected to it you should have what they call the "thermostat housing" remove it and the thermostat should be there. Replace it and the seal. A 6 min fix

Follow the top radiator hose. Where it connects to the engine, there is a thermostat cover. Remove the two bolts and the thermostat is under the cover.

How do i loosen the belt tensioner on a 04 buick rainer with the v6

You used a 3/8" ratchet or belt tensioner tool to rotate the tensioner out of the way of the belt. It will come back towards the belt when released, and you will have to take the tension off when putting the new belt on.
