My chilton manual said take apart the whole truck, take dash out, take breather assembly apart, take antenna off, take kicker panel off etc. All that is wrong, theres a black compartment door inside cab on passenger side, take 6 to 8 screws out, unhook hoses from under hood, it slides right out.

I am trying to replace the heater core is it inside the car or in engine compartment?

the heater cores on this are replaced from under the hood.i believe the heater hoses connect to the heater core on top of the heater box under the hood.there should be a plate on this box with several screws(bolts),that hold it on that needs to be removed to get to the heater core may have to remove weather stripping to get to the bolts.there is a holding bracket that holds the heater core to the inside of the box that has to be removed to pull the core out.

Find heater core

you can find the heater core of any car by following to heater hoses from under the hood they will meet at the same point on your firewall (wall seperating the inside compartment from hood compartment) If they meet at a box under the hood passengers side firewall then the core is under the hood if those 2 hoses meet and just go into the car from under the hood your core is under your dash at the location the hose go into the car. Your core is directly attached to those 1" hoses (black) 2 of them.
