I also have an 03. I had the same problem it sounds like you are having. It would rev out, I would let off the throttle and it would engage, i also lost reverse. Took it to tranny shop and it was diagnosed as the SUN SHELL, a common yet not recalled issue for the trailblazer. If you caught it early you might be in luck, mine cost me $2400 to fix after a tranny rebuild and new torque converter. GOOD LUCK!

Losing power in accelation

Fuel filter is probably clogging up (it's common), which restricts fuel flow and makes it hard to make the needed power for acceleration or other high-load situations like climbing hills. Change it and you'll probably be fine.

Car looses power up a hill

How slight was the hill and how much weight did you have in your car? When you got power back was it because you were no longer on the hill or were you going downhill?
You may just need to drop down a gear to get the power back, if you have a heavy car even slight hills can cause it to lose power especially if your in top gear. You have a "sports transmission" option (I'm pretty sure it's on all the DSG transmissions) you just need to move it across to the +/- bit and move the stick to the - to go down a gear. Otherwise you'd have to wait until your auto decides it's lost enough revs to go down a gear. Which is why I hate autos.
Otherwise it could be bad fuel or something wrong with the turbo.

High engine rev low

I would suggest an automatic transmission flush before I did anything else.
