Question about 1995 Ford Windstar

1 Answer

Will run for 5 sec and then it will not run

My husband went to start the van to come home 2 days ago after work. It had been very cold -20f. It would try to start, but would not. today it is in the 10's and him and my fil got it started. The drove it 5 miles at 10mph. He said that it would not go any faster. It then died. He is at the point where it now will run for 5 sec and then it dies. This is our only vehicle. Please help!!!

I have the same symptoms but in my case my car doesn't die. Any idea where is the problem? Before this problem showed up a new radio and starter was installed. It can be a short circuit behind the radio. Could that be the cause

Could be a number of things.

Fuel pump, pump relay, plugged fuel filter, bad spark plugs, plug wires, coilpack/or/distributor
Most reasons are car won't start or stay running is a bad sensor.

Hello again. First thing I would do is take each spark plug out and lay
it on the motor still plugged in (unless you have a plug tester). Then
have one persone watch the plug and one person turn the motor. Make
sure there is spark in every plug. If there isn't, then you probably
have a bad coil pack. The vehicle would act like it does. If all plugs
are fine, then the next thing I would do is find the camshaft sensor
and unplug it and try to run the vehicle. I found that a bad CAMshaft
sensor will cause the vehicle to run and die. It will run if it is
unplugged and it is bad. Very common on the Windstars. Let me know if
    this works.

This is where the camshaft position sensor is located:

Front seating area, center, under engine cover, end
of intake manifold, above water pump, mounted on the top end of the oil
    pump intermediate shaft.

MY FIRST GUESS WOULD BE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSORY, SECOND WOULD BE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR.
I DO RECOMEND THAT YOU CHECK YOU IGNITION COILS FOR SPARK. IF YOU NEED HELP DOING THIS LET ME KNOW. IF YOU HAVE BAD COIL PACKS YOU CAR WILL BARELY RUN. IT WILL ONLY RUN UNTIL YOU LET OFF THE GAS AND IT DIES.
ALSO BAD OXYGEN SENSOR IS ANOTHER VERY GOOD SUGGESTION.

My Van Was Running OK The nekt day I started the engine, & runs for 5 sec, & stop, keep douing the same thing

Your alarm went off. This is common if it was your crank or cam it would start shut off but give you more than five seconds, Try this roll down a window disconnect the battery and put both terminal together, this will try the BCM(body control module) hod terminal together for 30 seconds reattach the battery put the key in the ignition for 10 seconds in the ACC position then start it. see if that works

I have a 2005 Dodge SXT. I started my van and it ran for 2 secs. and shut itself off. I noticed a round red light flashing on my dash. Looked it up in the owners manual and it read as an alarm of some...

Run it back to autozone and while running have them test your charging system. It sounds like a low voltage situation. Alternator is probably not putting out enough voltage to run ignition, charge battery and run all accessories at same time,

Our 1998 Ford windstar has went all EXORCIST in dash board etc.

at the minimum, since you mentioned all the idiot lights coming on, your alternator is fried. have someone put in a new alternator. if it's still acting up, have someone go over the computer.
