Question about Jeep Grand Cherokee

2000 Jeep Wrsangler will not start, has new battery

Does not turn over but once in a while when I push forward on transmission stick (automatic trans.) it starts, so I'm guessing there may be a contact in the gear selector itself. It has only 30k on the vehicle. All battery cables and posts have been cleaned. Engine does not turn over. Could it be starter or selonoid and how do I test to see if it's a starter issue? Jeff

Check the neutral safety switch for adjustment and operation. The switch is on the right side of the transmission, opposite where the linkage goes in on the drivers side. Usually the switch has a two foot harness with a connector at the end. The two center contacts opposite the retaining clips are the ones in play when starting and should have continuity between them in either park or neutral. If not you need to either adjust switch position, replace or rebuild switch.
good luck

Go on with 1st. gearand those not change at all. already replace with a new automatic transmition but same result.

Is the check engine light on? In event of a failed speed sensor, the transmission can go into limp mode. That leave you with one forward gear, usually second, and reverse.

Will a 2000 4.0 from a jeep cherokee sport replace a 2000 4.0 in a jeep grand cherokee?

Yes...both are identical. Only thing I'd check further on is if one has a manual transmission you may have a different flywheel flange or will need a pilot bushing if the vehicle getting the engine is stick.
If both are problem at all.

Can't get automatic shift lever out of park and can't start car of my 2003 jeep liberty sport

Well, Im not sure on your specific make, but I can't believe Jeep is still having this problem, My 2000 Grand Cherokee was always doing that. Usually, (It was the 'ol hammer trick,) in at least keep jamming forward on the (floor stick in my case) shifter and keep trying to start it. ( while it's in Park, but just kept hitting it forward) Best I got, there was just that glitch, but always worked whenever it may have happened.

We repair our Toyota Lucida automatic transmission because in runs on reverse only. Our problem now is that it will start to move forward only, once the engine RPM was between 1800 to 2000. Another thing,...

The problem concerning low gear locked up sounds like a bad primary shift solenoid (located on the valve body internally) the other issue with the forward gear only engaging with the rpm up to 1800 could be inadequate hydraulic pressure (a transmission front pump issue), most likely there is no problem with the pump if when shifting the selector lever into reverse it engages quickly and normally. This may be a transmission computer issue and I would recommend having the dealership do a diagnostic check on the transmission to eliminate the computer as a culprit. transmission problems are very difficult to figure out and before spending a lot of money get the electrical diagnostic done first.

My 2001 dodge ram 1500 with 5.2L sometimes slips in overdrive. what could be causing it

Assuming its an automatic. Check the Transmission fluid first and foremost. Follow the instructions on the dip stick. If the fluid turns out alright then sorry to say but the clutch plates inside the transmission are going out. Transmission fluid could smell burnt. I had a 2000 ram and at 82000 miles thats when it started doing the same thing. I drove it til it wouldn't move forward or back.

2006 Jeep Wrangler won't start

First, make sure you can turn the engine by hand. If you can't then the starter can't turn it either. Have someone else turn the key and look for the source of the click...may be a relay. Go over the starting circuit with a volt meter. Check for power at the starter main terminal and then with the key turned to "start" check for power at the trigger terminal on the starter. Check battery voltage and check relay operation.
You have a neutral safety switch on the transmission if its an automatic and a clutch switch if it's a stick. Check them as well. Make sure battery grounding on fender and block are also clean and secure.

Oil change, new idle adjustment screw and check exhaust system for leaks.

88 wrangler wont crank

is this a manuel or automatic transmission? if its automatic try forcing the shift lever forward while trying to start, if its a manuel check the clutch pedal switch , if no luck with those check to see if the ignition switch is giving 12volts in the start position, if not then just put a momentary contact push button on the dash and put key on power to one side of the button and the other side to the small wire on the starter then you have yourself a push button start with the key on only so there are no accidents, please rate -jeff
