Question about 1992 Toyota Camry V6

1 Answer

Security alarm I recently bought a 1993 Toyota Camry V6 Automatic. I guess it came with a security alarm that comes on at will Often, all the central locking system becomes active while driving. I have asked the technician to work on it with no success. The security remote control came with it but no longer works. Can I ask the technician to disable it. Dayo My alarm was an installed option, listed on the window sticker. Remote has not worked in years and the alarm has given me no problems until a few weeks ago. Went off when I tried to start the car one morning and has been a nuisance ever since. If I jump start the car it starts and runs fine. Drive it for twenty minutes, stop the car, immediately try to restart it and nothing! Have tried the valet switch (has no effect), unlocked the car from the passenger side (does not disarm the alarm), simply tried with the hood open (It looks like my hood open sensor is broken and would always show that the hood is open). Saw this post and took a look. Black box was not under the seat but strapped to a vent duct below and to the left of the steering column. One small black wire comes out the side of the box (don't know to where it went, but it was disconnected when I pulled the box off the duct). The rest of the wires come out of a connector. I can trace this bundle to where it plugs into a connector just to the right and slightly below the steering column. Not sure where the original wires are ... there's a bundle that looks like it has all the same color wires, but it is already plugged in just behind and to the right of the steering wheel. Any suggestions?

This could be caused by a malfunctioning aftermarket alarm system, check to see if there is a small LED on a bracket on the lower left of the dash, if it has this I would recommend having the system removed at an automotive alram shop.

1993 Toyota Camry can be running fine when you come to stop dies.

I would think that it is one of two common problems...

1) The Idle Air Control (I.A.C.) valve may be bad.

2) The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (E.G.R.) valve may be stuck open.

You may need a skilled technician to determine which of the two possibilities is the problem.

Security alarm

Look under the driver side seat for a black box, with several wires going to it. This is the controller for the security system. Please do NOT unplug the wires. You car will NOT start if you do. Advise if the box is there, and I will provide info to disable the system.

Alarm and central door locking.

Replace the alarm control box, it is usually under the driver seat, or in the extreme left corner of the dash. If the box under the driver seat got wet for any reason, expect bizaare things to happen; in any case, replace the box.
