Replace Slave Cylinder 2002 VW transporter

The heading is replace slave cylinder of 2002 vw transporter. Why would you be removing the tranny to do this job as the slave cylinder is on the outside of the bell housing. IT is normal to remove the bell housing with the tranny as they are normally one unit as the bolts are inside and cannot be reached until the tranny is on the ground. Having said that, if there are 4 bolts in a flange outside the tranny proper and the bell housing is tightened with these bolts then you can remove the tranny separate to the bell housing.

2002 dodge intrepid bell housing bolts

Buy one bolt from dealer --then the rest at a better
price else where

You know the width of the trans flange & the depth
of the engine threaded hole, so you need to be a little
short, so not to bottom out

Learning how to measure metric threads is something
you got to learn

You need a chart & know how to do the math as well, to
convert decimal to metric

Working on a car today is not like the 1960's

You need a micrometer & a vernier caliper

I use them almost every week, helps of coarse
if you stared out a machinist I guess

I pulled all the bellhousing bolts..motor mount bolts...and can't seperate the 4 speed granny transmission from the engine block...what's the problem..everything is lose but won't seperate..

The input shaft (on the front of the trans) is inserted into the clutch plate, so the trans has to move straight backward (or the engine has to move straight forward) about two or three inches to separate the two, before either one can move up or down.

Make sure that you can get them to rotate slightly with respect to each other, to make sure that there is not one more bolt somewhere that is still holding them together.

If you are pulling the engine, make sure that you have already removed the radiator, otherwise when you pull the engine forward, it could go too far and smash the radiator.

  2. Drain the cooling system.
  3. Remove the three bolts and position the A/C compressor aside.
  4. Remove the radiator hose clamp from the thermostat housing.
  5. Remove the radiator hose from the thermostat housing.
  6. Remove the three bolts and the thermostat housing.
  7. Remove the thermostat and the O-ring from the thermostat housing.
  8. Clean any corrosion or debris from the thermostat housing.
  9. Clean the mating surfaces.
  10. Inspect the thermostat.

To install:

WARNING Position the air bleed valve on the thermostat toward the top of the engine.
  1. Install the thermostat in the described position to the cylinder head.
  2. Install a new thermostat O-ring.
  3. Install the thermostat housing.
  4. Secure the thermostat housing with three bolts and tighten to 12 ft. lbs. (16 Nm).
  5. Install the A/C compressor and secure with three bolts. Tighten the A/C compressor bolts to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm).
  6. Install the radiator hose and clamp to the thermostat housing.
  7. Fill the radiator with approved coolant.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.
  9. Start the engine.
  10. Allow the coolant to attain operating temperature (both hoses feel warm and the coolant is flowing through the radiator).
  11. Check for leaks in the cooling system.
  12. Shut off the engine.
  13. Install the radiator cap.

Short answer is that it is located in the housing that the TOP radiator hose is attached to at the engine block.
