I have the same problem I found the ignition coils and wires , so is this the only spark source ? is there no distributor cap and assembly at all ? My kia doesnt have any spark coming out plugs and they are good, they were out and attached to wires when i checked for spark. Nothing there, what is the next source of ignition before the coils and wires ? please and thank you.

check one and three to see if they are getting fire if not then this could be distributor cap is bad or if it has seperate coils then these could b bad too
the Kia does not have a distributor, let alone a distributor cap, the engine is equiped with a ignation coil at each cylinder, there is a crankshaft and camshaft sensor that send signels to the onboard computer system then the computer sends the signals to the ignation ignator it then sends the signals to the coils at each cylinder. a much better system then a distributor.
Timing issue needs to be checked out first with a timing gun and maybe adjusted accordingly, There are mivor maintanences that you can do like put injector cleaner into gas tank which will clean your fuel injectors and opens it up so more gas gets into the piston heads. Simple things does wonders. Also you can put a cleaner to where the throttle is at on top of engine so it does not stick. Have you yet put new spark plugs or distributor cap and rotor because if you did would make this same problem with timing. If you changed the distributor cap and rotor and did not replace the old one with the new one in the exact same place is why timing could be off by an hair or two.
You have to remove the distributor from the engine then remove the distributor shaft from the distibutor housing, then you can remove & replace the pickup coil. Make sure you marke the exact location of the distributor body in relation to the intake manifold and note exactly where the rotor is pointing in relation to the distributor cap. I always set the timing marks on the front pulley at zero and make sure that the rotor is pointing at the #1 plug wire terminal on the cap before removing any distributor as it makes getting it in time easier if you lose your marks. You should reset the ignition timing when you have it all back together again as you'll most likely be off a few degrees. Some of these distributors had problems with the magnets in the distibutor shaft that would mimic a failing pickup coil and they were prone to drive gear wear. If you suspect any of those problems it's often easier to replace the entire distibutor with a reman unit.
Spluttering and missing is usually one of two things Fuel or spark ?
Fuel problems will be traced to 1/ in line fuel filters .. 2/ tank run low on petrol throwing dirt and grit into tank filter ( if Fitted ) and blocked or restricted injectors a good fuel additve sometimes cures that problem , but replacement is a far better option .
Poor spark plugs breaking down under preassure oiled plugs due to overfilling or incorrect fuel mixtures .. poor or cracked distributor caps dirty or damaged rotor arms in said cap .. leaking HT leads damaged by rubbing and contact with hot engine causing sparks to fly to nearest earth disrupting the spark and ignition timing ... hope this helps Regards vortash
if it is a 2.0 dohc there is no dist. cap. there is 2 coils on the top off thengine in the center under a cover. you will have to take some of the intake off to get the cover off
